If you've already slipped into hibernation or have been living under a rock that doesn't get Wifi, you may not have known that Wednesday, October 5th was the 16th birthday of the cultural phenomenon known as "Gilmore Girls". The show's long-awaited revival is barely over a month away, and Netflix decided to celebrate #HappyBirthdayGilmore in style.
Netflix decided to sponsor Luke's Diner pop-up shops all over the country, with at least three shops in each state. Netflix also made the generous gesture to foot the bill for 250 free cups of coffee at every shop.
It was madness, it was nostalgic, it was everything you'd expect when you're a Gilmore for a day. A friend of mine who, like me, is a die-hard fan of "Gilmore Girls" decided to join me on my quest: to live like a Gilmore, for one day only. The Gilmores' lives are constantly filled with drama, romance, laughter, and a good cup pot of coffee. This is what that life looks like in the real world:
Start your day off right with a bold cup of joe at Luke's. Of course, you'll never get to finish it, because you'll suddenly be whisked off to the most important part of your day. In true Lorelai fashion, you can choose to mock Luke until he does your bidding. I did this by proving that I looked cuter in a flannel and cap than he does. #sorrynotsorry
Next, it's off to work, where you will get yelled at and have to answer confusing phone calls. Why else would you need coffee in an IV? None of your other coping mechanisms make sense. But at least you'll also get the chance to share some laughs with dear friends.
After a long day of being clever and talking fast, you'll get pretty hungry. What would a Gilmore do? Burgers at Luke's! Treat yourself to a burger, and some fries, maybe a milkshake, or some pie, with pop-tarts, and coffee! You can always have more coffee!
Of course, you'll need to watch a rerun of Charlie Rose before bed, but it isn't too difficult to tap into that Gilmore lifestyle. How did you celebrate #HappyBirthdayGilmore? Did you sit on the couch and watch old movies while gorging on Chef Boyardee? Or did you too head over to Luke's Diner for some coffee and witty banter? Either way, I hope you had a grand Gilmore day!
