Christmas is my favorite time of year because I love giving meaningful gifts and spreading joy to people. I try to give people the best gifts because I enjoy making people happy-cry. But sometimes, it's impossible to give the gifts you want to give. Here's a list of 5 people and what I wish I could give them.

1. To my mom, who deserves only the best things in life

What do you get someone who deserves the world? Going through college, I've learned to appreciate my mom a lot more than I did when I was a kid. My mom has had a rough year, and I wish I could give her all of the happiness and love that the world has to offer, but that's physically impossible. She said she just wants company, which is a sweet thought, but that's not enough. Then she said she needs a new phone case. That's fine, but I don't want to just get her a phone case. I wish I could be with her as often as I was when I lived with her, but now that we've both moved, I only get to see her twice a year. Mostly I just want my mom to be happy and live a comfortable life, and I want to be able to contribute to that.

2. For my dad, who only ever wants movies and books

Don't get me wrong, it's easy to buy books and movies, and my dad and I usually watch whatever movie I get him, so it's nice bonding time. I used to get him "Calvin and Hobbes" comics, but over the years I've given him so many that he now owns them all. Receiving books and movies doesn't make people cry; I want to make my dad cry.

3. To my siblings and their significant others, who I never get gifts for

I have four older siblings; three of them have children, and all of them are either dating someone or are married. As a college student, I don't really have the means to buy them gifts, especially since then I feel like I have to get all of them something equally amazing. I want to be able to get them cool house appliances or tickets to something they really like, but I usually end up giving them something homemade or nothing at all.

4. To my nieces and nephews, who I would literally die for

That may sound dramatic, but I'm not joking. I have five nieces and four nephews, one of which I am the Godmother of. My nieces and nephews mean the world to me, and I wish I could spend more time with them. I want to be able to go to all of their dance recitals, help them with all of their school projects, and see them turn into the wonderful people I know they will become.

5. For my best friends, who deserve so much more than a pair of headphones

I'm very close to my friends, even though I'm miles apart from some of them. I wish I could give safety, happiness, and love as Christmas presents. My friends have seen me at my lowest points in life, and because of them I've been able to have my high points. I honestly do not know what I would do if I didn't have the support that I have from my friends, and I wish I could give them gifts that show how much they mean to me.

As you give and receive presents this holiday season, stop and think about how much you mean to people and how it really doesn't matter what you get; it's how you feel when you're around the people you care about.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter
morethanwheels

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
