We all have talents and gifts given to us by God. Sometimes it's hard to discover that talent, and sometimes it isn't. Few people discover their talents at a young age, while most people continually fight against God about what they know they can do. God knows what our talents are, because he's the one who gave them to us.
The thing about gifts and talents is that they really aren't that special. Now, before you bite my head off and stop reading, I'd like to rephrase this. Our gifts are unique, because we take them and create something so great that it becomes special. God gave us these talents for a reason. He wants us to make them special, even when we think our talent really isn't that amazing.
I didn't discover what my gift was until the summer before I started high school. I knew I liked to write, and I knew I loved to tell stories, but I barely counted that as the talent that God gave to me, because I had gotten into my head that a talent is something special, like being able to play a musical instrument, to sing in front of people, to act or to be an artist. I still wrote, but pushed it down.
I've learned since then that God gives us all different talents, and that we should use our talents to give back to him, like how a musician plays for God, and a singer sings to worship him. So I've learned that while I write, I won't write for me; I'll be the storyteller that God made me to be. I have to tell his story somehow, and that's why he's given me this talent to write.
Next time you take a look at your talent and think it's no good, remember that you were given this gift for a reason. Remember who gave it to you in the first place, and know that whatever you do with your gift, it's bound to bring someone to God.
