Gifts to ask for:
You're in college, so you need to be somewhat practical with the opportunity for free things!
1. Money
Cash, gift cards, a deposit in your checking account, no one cares; everything helps
2. Food
This is along the same lines. Buy me groceries, buy me a meal, gift card to Walmart or H-E-B. It all will make you happy.
3. Clothes
Whether it is additional winter-wear or you are prepping for the spring, get those new kicks, and that jacket -- and by get I, of course, mean have your aunt buy it for you.
4. Whatever you actually want
A new laptop or phone upgrade, makeup, "Fallout 4." "Treat Yo' Self" is definitely a motto for life, but what also is good is "Let Them Treat Me."
Gifts to give:
Receiving is great, but most will agree that giving is just as pleasing -- if not more. With a better-paying job, this year I am all about spoiling my loved ones (and then eating ramen for a month, but whatever. It's cool).
1. DIY
the internet is a beautiful thing with tons of ideas on what to make. Candles, sewing projects, gift baskets with tons of goodies, or amping up some dollar store knick-knacks (so they look like anthropologie knick-knacks instead). As a Pinterest addict I love crafting and seeing people appreciate them more than something store bought they'll throw in the closet come January 2nd.
2. Accessories
Accessories are almost always a safe bet. They are simple enough to buy when you don't know the person's style perfectly, and if you do -- there is an array of options. Cuff links, scarves, nice belts, bracelets, are always good options to start with.
3. Print
No matter if it is their favorite painting, a picture of y'all, or the world map for their office, a print of something is easy, pretty inexpensive (depending on where you go) and can be as personal as you want.
4. Food
College students are not the only ones who enjoy food. Get in that kitchen and whip up something off Pinterest or from a cookbook and get the holidays rolling. Just tell them Christmas calories don't count as real calories, and they won't even mind.
And most importantly, just remember gifts don't make the holiday, and neither does your favorite food. What's important is the celebration of what matters, and being forever grateful for what you do have.
Happy Holidays!
