Why does it feel so difficult to pick out the perfect present for moms?

Does anyone else have this problem? She seems to have everything she needs: a wonderful daughter. Jk, but really, why is it so difficult? I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s because my mom is too perfect for anything this world has to offer. Like nothing is good enough for her. But, over the years I have come up with ideas that work.

1. Practical Stuff

Moms love practical things, even as gifts. Try to pay attention to things that might be breaking or getting lost in the house, or pay attention to small practical things your mom may have mentioned before that would give you a clue as to what she might be having an eye for. Ideas include:

Measuring cups, book in her favorite genre or favorite author, devotional, new Tupperware, new mop if your old one is horrendous (but make sure to pair this gift with something else [ie. Chocolate, candle, or massage, or any combination thereof])

2. Accessories

Every female likes new clothing or accessories. Here is a small list of potential items:

Scarves, a nice pair of Flats, a Quaint Necklace, Slippers, Fuzzy Socks.

3. Self-Care & Goodies

Everyone loves small trinkets or goodies that are useful and also fun or relaxing. Things in this category are probably things that are small and nice but something your mom might not buy for herself. Ideas include:

Candles, Room Fragrance, Coffee/Tea Mugs, Loofah, Nice Soap, Essential Oils, Diffuser.

4. Flowers

Flowers are sold practically at any store. It makes it easy and convenient to swing around and get some (and some chocolates while you're at it)!

Bouquets, homemade boquets, a potted plant, a simple bunch of her favorite flowers.

5. Food

Um, who doesn’t like food? Your mom probably cooked for you for a long time, so why not make her life a little easier and buy or cook something for her that she’d like? Ideas include:

Tea, Chocolate, Homemade Cookies, her Favorite Cake, Dinner (homemade or out!), Starbucks gift card.

6. Big-Purchase Items

If you have siblings or friends who are really close to your mom, think about putting some money together in order to buy something bigger. Maybe a new Table, Fancy Dress she’s been wanting, Perfume, a nice massage (you can never go wrong with a massage, even if you can only afford a short one)

Don’t forget to get creative! If you like to do crafts or sew, make something unique and special for her! You can use a mug as a gift basket and put some chocolates and a little candle inside of it and make it super cute and personal!

Now, go out and get that perfect gift, guys!

Let me know in the comments what other gifts and presents you would add to this list!

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
