Gifts Every College Girl Wants

With children gone away to college, it is sometimes difficult to know what to get for them, but here is a small guide for your college age girl.

It is typical that after elementary school, the Christmas wish lists to Santa disappear, leaving parents struggling to know what their child wants for the holiday.

In middle school, clothes and Bath and Body Works are pretty typical gifts, and mothers holding on to their baby can still get away with purchasing a few toys.

In high school, the gifts shift from quantity over quality, to more expensive, quality gifts. These include electronics and clothing. But when a child goes off to college, parents are typically at a loss. They don't see their kid regularly and therefore it is harder to know what things they are into or may desire. Things that they walk by in stores and their eyes stay on for just a split second longer. For anyone struggling to know what to get for their college age student, there is the list of some of the must haves for this year!

1. Colombia, or any long coat

Especially if your student goes to school in a cold place such as New England, it is important to have them bundled up for winter. Long winter jackets keep the whole body protected from wind, snow, and anything else a brutal winter can throw at someone. They also typically come with a (faux) fur lined hood to keep everyones face warm on the way to class!

2. Lululemon gift card or clothing

Athletic or not, Lululemon has great quality clothing for everyone.

3. Nike anything!

Everyone loves Nike. Sneakers, pants, long sleeves, short sleeves, sweatshirts…anything is appreciated because to be honest, it is quite expensive for a college student to afford.

4. Amazon gift cards or Prime membership

From my experience, college students rely heavily on Amazon for everything from toothpaste to decorations for the room and everything in between. Amazon typically has low prices, but not having to spend your own money is always a nice thing. A Prime membership would also allow your student to get things quick and cheeper than normally!

5. College or University clothing

The college bookstores are typically very expensive, but having clothing to represent your college or university is an essential part of being in school. A comfy sweatshirt or sweatpants is always nice to snuggle up in on a cold day.

6. Aerie/Victoria Secret

Something that a college female can never get enough of is bras and underwear. The washer and dryers in the dorms are known for eating these necessities and replacements are always needed.

7. Beats or nice headphones

Blocking out sound is important for when studying really needs to get done, or when you just need to retreat from everything for a little. Nice, noise canceling headphones are expensive, but will be appreciated by the student.

8. Food

Believe it or not, college students always need more food! Midnight snacks or for a mid study break when the dining hall is either closed or just too far away to make it at that time.

9. Technology

Fitbits and Apple Watches seem to be the new big thing this year in the realm of technology, but who knows what apple will release before Christmas this year!

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

10 Things Only Equestrians Understand

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
