Gift Ideas On A College Budget

Now that we are in full swing holiday season I can already hear my bank account crying. This time of year is not about getting, but about giving. However, as a broke college student we can't always go out and buy the latest trends for our loved ones. Luckily, there are plenty of inexpensive gift ideas that your friends and family will love.

1. Giftcards: You can never go wrong with getting someone a giftcard to their favorite restaurant or store. It gives you the flexibility to pick your price and it is guaranteed that they will love it.

2. Stuffed Slippers: Everyone could use a cozy pair of slippers, so why not spice it up a little bit by adding little socking stuffers as well. For example, you could add nail polish, gum, lotion, chapstick, etc.

3. DIY Mugs: Whether you're a coffee addict or stick to tea or even hot cocoa for the holidays everyone could use a cute and fun mug. Having it specially made by you gives it that extra personal touch. You can write an inside joke or make a cool design, whatever it is I'm sure they'll love it.

4. Tickets: Depending on what you want to see, you can buy tickets for your loved ones favorite band, show, etc. sometimes for a good price. This will show how much you know and care about them and will definitely put a smile on their face.

(This is my reaction to getting One Direction tickets for Christmas)

5. Homemade food: Everyone knows that the real way to someones heart is through food. Make your loved ones homemade holiday cookies or some delicious family recipe. No matter what you whip up, I'm sure they will eat it all up.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
