One of the more mysteriously fun parts of the holiday season come with group gift exchanges. Whether done with friends, coworkers, or strangers, it's an opportunity to get to know someone a little better and get an unexpected gift in return.

A popular tool for organizing gift exchanges is the platform Elfster, where users can join multiple gift exchanges and look at participants' wish lists. These lists can be helpful for someone to pick out your gift, but often times it is hard to choose what to put on the wishlist, and many end up putting something like socks or a scarf and call it a day. The thing about the list is that, if you do put something, you will probably end up getting that thing. If you've run out of things to ask for below the $25 price point, here are some ideas you would probably enjoy:

  1. A hot cocoa set: nothing says "winter wonderland" like drinking hot chocolate while it's snowing outside. As the weather gets colder, having this set handy complete with marshmallows, cocoa mixes, and sprinkles will be the perfect way to celebrate the season's first snow.
  2. LED lights: LED lights have gained a lot of popularity thanks to TikTok as they create a multitude of ambiances and only require an outlet for its power source. Though there are many variations at different price points, the ones under $25 are still of great quality and last a long time.
  3. Fuzzy slippers: this is the kind of thing that you don't realize you need until you have it. Walking around the house in warm slippers in the wintertime is one of the coziest and most comfortable ways to avoid feeling chilly. Plus, see fun options like this where slippers can come in the shape of animals for added cuteness.
  4. A self help book. Examples can be a cookbook from your favorite cuisine, a how-to guide for a hobby you want to start, or even a mindset book that shows you how to properly tackle certain aspects of life (finances, relationships, mental health, etc). This is also a great idea if you're looking to add something to your winter break reading list because in addition to just reading, you'll be learning a skill to better yourself as a person!
  5. A good portable charger: though the bigger ones can get quite expensive, you can pick up this lipstick-sized one from Anker for $20, and this one with double the power for only $30. An essential for those who are always on the go.

Wishing everyone a joyous (and safe) holiday season!

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
