Last week I took a spectacular trip to Miami and, amongst all the great experiences I had there, one of my most memorable ones was dinner at Gianni Versace’s home. My mother and I wined and dined at the home of Gianni Versace on Ocean Drive in Miami, Florida. A bit out of place on the busy road of restaurants including the Sugar Factory, the home is outstanding, unique and has Versace stamped on every single inch of it.
Many know Versace today as a brand worn by the rich and famous, noticeable by way of the golden Greek key design and the head logo of the Greek Goddess Medusa. Many do not know, however, that Versace the designer was, in fact, not Greek. Rather, he was Italian and used motifs of Greek and Roman art. Moreover, Gianni Versace made an understated, Graeco-Roman design into a world-renowned logo representing wealth in the modern world. His ability and completion of making an ancient world design into a current day trend is legendary.
Even more so, this legendary designer not only took risks in the fashion world, but also in his own, personal--but not so private--life. In fact, Gianni Versace did not partake in travel with security, and—as I stated earlier— his home in Miami is located on one of busiest, tourist roads in the entire city. No common person, let alone a celebrity of his caliber in their right mind, would place a home on the insecure and anything but private, street location. His risk-taking personality and ability is highlighted in his murder. The famous designer was shot on the front steps of his Miami home on July 15th of 1997 at the age of 50 by Andrew Cunanan. Perhaps with security, or a different and more secure, placement of his home, legendary Gianni Versace may have lived a longer life. No one really knows why the killer murdered Versace as of this time.
Now, as you see Versace designs in the future, you will have more knowledge of the legendary and risk-taking designer who made the Greek key designs and head of Medusa into such a famed, and notorious face of his never-dying brand.
