'Ghostbusters:' The Movie We Needed But Didn't Want

Most people have heard of the new remake of the classic film "Ghostbusters" starring Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Signourney Weaver, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson. The new movie is an all female cast starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Chris Hemsworth.

When the first trailer of the remake was published it became quickly the most disliked trailer on youtube. Many fans of the original movie felt like this movie was going to be terrible and ruin the franchise. One YouTuber made a video saying he would not see the movie so his fans should not expect a review of the movie. There was a lot of backlash and the movie hadn’t even been released or reviewed yet.The original cast and the new cast when on Jimmy Kimmel to discuss the movie after all the internet hate.

For awhile I wanted to say something about this movie. I loved the original "Ghostbusters" movie and I hated seeing people hate on the new one. I liked the trailers and they made me excited for the new movie. But I might have been biased because I’m a huge fan of all the actors in this movie. I think the trailer did not do the movie justice. The various stills and character designs that were released made fans make assumptions about the plot of the new movie. All of these theories caused fans to have hissy fits. The advertising team for the movie continued on and released Echo cooler which is a hi-c energy drink. This drink sold out quickly or it was very hard to find. But I’m rambling and need to reach my point.

So what I’m trying to say is that we needed this movie. This is an all female cast, which is still a rare thing. This movie was debated so much because of its all female cast. But this shouldn’t be such a big deal. Females are just as capable as males. This movie was excellent and the cast worked so perfectly together. They all had a type of chemistry that kept the movie going and made it believable. This movie is important for all young kids. This movie showed four intelligent women who were not over-sexualized. None of the women had a love interest and the males in the movie were second characters. Chris Hemsworth played a character who was a receptionist who needed to be assisted through the most basic tasks and was chosen for his looks. This is normally the role for a woman.

This movie broke down gender boundaries and showed that females can be strong scientists ready to defeat the larger evils. We need more movies like this. Movies that show children that females can do the same as men. Now I understand with all the butt-hurt fanboys out there movies similar to this one have a harder chance of succeeding, but we need to work on that. This movie was a great way to show that females can lead a franchise. Rotten Tomatoes made a good point that I agree with, this is a great movie but nothing will ever compare to the original and that might be why this movie was in pre-production for so long. Even though many people did not want this movie, they should accept that we are living in a world filled with remakes and this is an good remake of a classic film.

Also as a final point for those upset, having this movie and the others in separate universes allows fans to not worry about the previous movie being ruined. This can allow fanboys to not cry about their movie being soiled. So while fanboys out there sit holding their VHS tapes of the 1984 "Ghostbusters" and drink their echo cooler, we as a society need to continue on and show that women can bust ghosts too.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
