As your local movie theater employee, I know a thing or two about movies. When watching a movie, I look for certain qualities, and I have to say not everything I watch is up to my standards. However, not every review is going to be an honest review of the movie. Maybe they're too attached to the first one and refuse to give the sequel or remake a chance. Like several other movies, I believe that this is yet again the case with Ghostbusters, 2016. When I walked into the theater to see it, I had low expectations. When I walked out of the theater though, I can honestly say that I loved the movie.
The plot was similar to the original Ghostbusters movie that came out in '86 with an original spin, and it wasn't just because they gender-bent the cast. There were several cameos throughout the movie that gave not only me, but the other people in the theater some laughs. Even the stay puff marshmallow man showed up for a cameo! The energy throughout the entire movie was amazing.
They had a song from Fall Out Boy, and we all know who they are now that they've hit the mainstream media, and they don't just sing for any movie. The last movie they sang for was Big Hero 6, and that movie was excellent. Another factor that makes this movie great was the fact that they didn't keep it serious. Honestly, it felt like a Ghostbusters comedy. Some of the lines were priceless, and the cast was fantastic. Even the credits kept my attention, with a hilarious dance number by Chris Hemsworth and a bunch of people who worked for Homeland Security in the movie. How many times are you going to be able to say that you saw something like that on the big screen?
The battle scenes were also incredibly impressive, the CGI was definitely an improvement to what I'd seen before. It almost felt real. The characters were believable and quirky. Even when I had no idea what they were talking about, I felt like I was one of them. If you liked the original Ghostbusters, trust me, you're going to like the new one. It's definitely worth your time to catch while it's still in the theater.
