Have you ever wondered why it seems like our world is becoming more corrupt day by day? One could argue that our world has always been bad, and it's not any worse than what it was 700 years ago, but I would like to share something with you.
Matthew 12:43-45 (ESV) says this:
"(43) When an unclean spirit comes out of a man, it roams through waterless places looking for rest but doesn't find any. (44) Then it says, 'I'll go back to my house that I came from.' And returning, it finds the house vacant, swept, and put in order. (45). Then off it goes and brings in seven other spirits eviler than itself, and they enter and settle down there. As a result, that man's last condition is worse than the first. That's how it will also be with this evil generation."
Have you ever wondered why it seems like when we fall from grace, it's worse than the previous time? When we turn away from our wicked ways and ask the Lord to forgive us and make us clean, the enemy no longer has a place to stay. He will leave and search for another place, but won't find one, so he goes back to his previous home. When he comes back, and realizes our faith is stronger than before, he has to make his fight even bigger. Bringing back seven more spirits even eviler, the enemy comes back for battle again. If we do not die to our sins daily and pray for the Lord to guard our hearts and renew our minds and ask for the Holy Spirit's guidance in our daily activities, it will be impossible to resist the temptation of sin. And we will be in an even worse position than where we were before we were saved.
We live in a world that doesn't want anything to do with God. Our society embraces wickedness and sinful nature. The more we move away from God, the more our world is going to crumble. You're right, things have always been bad, but unfortunately, they are getting worse. And refusing to recognize this is only going to hurt us even more.
We can't control what the world does, but we need to recognize that each day is another day closer to the second coming of Jesus. Don't get distracted and don't be afraid of the world we live in. Instead, be on guard, stay constant in prayer, and be ready for whatever is to come.
