Getting What You Deserve

How does one know exactly what they deserve? Do they deserve their significant other? Do they deserve the grade they received in class? Do they deserve to take a day off from their strenuous work out schedule? What do you deserve?

This question of "what does one deserve" came to my mind the other day while talking to my friend. They mentioned that they did not think they deserved the person that they were talking to at the moment claiming that the guy was "too nice" and that they were not good enough for him. However, my friend is incredibly sweet, beautiful, intelligent, funny and imaginative. I have no clue why they do not think they deserve him. I think that they deserve the world. So why would they settle for less? In fact, why would anyone settle for anything or anyone less than what we deserve?

These days It feels like a lot of people are "settling" life. They constantly feel as if they are not good enough; Not attractive enough to date someone that attractive. Not smart enough to pursue that major. Not good enough to get the job that they want to apply for. But who says? Who says you are not good looking enough? Fireworks are pretty but so are Christmas lights. They are both equally beautiful but just different kinds of beautiful. Who is to say what kind of beauty is more beautiful than another? Who says that you are not intelligent enough? IQ tests do not accurately measure one's intelligence in its entirety and grades do not necessarily measure how smart you are either. Who says you are not capable of a job? Even if you may not think you have have all the qualities that the job lists, you may have other qualities like passion or compassion that the people did not even know they were looking for.

But it is time to turn this common viewpoint around. It is time to realize that we are all awesome people. It is not up to someone else who decides what you deserve, it is up to you.

You are worth so much more then you think you are. You do not need to settle for anything less than everything. Do not think that you do not deserve the best. Make 2017 the year of getting what you deserve. You are a wonderful human being that is valuable to the world with all of your tenants, ideas, and soul. Go out there and get the things that you deserve.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
