Getting To The Gym: Thoughts Of Going To Workout In College

Fitness is important. It's important for your mental sanity, it helps you manage stress, and hey, it helps you keep that pizza that you ate at 3:45 on a Friday morning off your girlish figure. However, getting your but off the couch and to the gym is not always the easiest thing, especially when you’re tired or just feeling particularly lazy. To be honest, sometimes getting to the gym is a process.

  1. You wake up with all intentions of working out. As you lie in bed checking your emails, you vow to hit the gym today— and for the rest of the week.
  2. You head off to class, ready to come home, drop your stuff, and hit the gym.
  3. You get home from said classes absolutely starving— whether it's lunchtime or dinnertime. You try to decide if you should eat something. You decide no because you’re going to the gym and you don’t want to get a cramp.
  4. You realize you have a couple of things that you have to tackle before heading to the gym; you sit down and open your computer. You get distracted looking at your newsfeed or checking up on your Pinterest page.
  5. You look at the clock and realize a half hour has gone by. How did this happen? Didn’t you just sit down five minutes ago?
  6. You look at the clock and plan your estimated time of departure. You have to leave by this time or you know you won't go.
  7. You walk upstairs slowly, dragging your feet because you don’t want to go, but you know you have to. You throw on your favorite workout top and think, I got this.
  8. You begin your trek to the rec. Depending on where you live, this could take anywhere from five to 20 minutes. You decide to play some pump-up jams on your way there for motivation.
  9. You arrive, you swipe in, and you head straight to the workout equipment of your choice. It’s go time.
  10. 30 minutes in, and you only have a little bit left in your workout. You keep pushing till the end and step off your elliptical with pride. You’re done for the day.
  11. You walk out of the gym feeling amazing. You just kicked some serious butt, and you are more than ready for your workout tomorrow.

There you have it, the process of getting to the gym. Whether you have an amazing “I’m a rock star, look out world” workout or you struggled through the whole thing, you made it to the gym.

You go, girl!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
