The three-week hell of maymester has gone and passed but summer classes will continue into August. Just the sound of school during summer is enough to make any student cringe but opinions might change when you ask yourself; would you rather take a few summer courses or tack on an extra semester?
Unlike high school where summer school had the stigma of being for the dumb kids who couldn't pass and move up to the next grade level, college students take summer classes for many reasons. It could be that they want to graduate early or want a better grade to boost their GPA or even because it was the only way they could convince their parents to let them stay at TCU for the summer with all of their friends…strategic! Whatever the reason may be, summer classes are great but can feel like a real drag. Here are some ideas/tips to help you make it through summer session.
Timing is Everything.
During regular term its easy to procrastinate assignments but summer session is a whole new ball game. I highly suggest not only actually doing your homework but also doing it right after class. That way you feel like you still have time to have a life outside of school!
Don't Over Do It.
Usually there's a decent amount of people who stay at school for summer session and normally they tend to hangout and drink a lot because, why not and with who else? Everyone else is gone! This is both good and bad. Good, because you meet and get close with people. Bad, because this has the potential to turn into a daily day drink turned going out every night scenario in which many people start to fail their classes while packing on a good 15 lbs of drinking weight. Not ideal.
Explore.
Summer is the perfect time venture out of our Fort Worth radius. With smaller groups of friends at school, packing in the car and taking weekend trips to float the Guadalupe or hit the dirty six in Austin are much easier to execute. This also helps with the feeling of being trapped in the few miles of campus.
