It's Possible To Keep Your Cool When You Get Screwed Over

This has happened to virtually every single one of us. Being screwed over, led on, played with, and treated like you don't matter. It sucks. It hurts. It's a stab to the heart. Nothing good comes from being screwed over…or does it? When you get fired from a job or don't get a call back for an internship you feel like everything in the world is working against you. This causes the feelings of guilt, self-hate, anxiety, and many other negative emotions that are only going to hold you down. The best thing you can do in these situations is to be as optimistic as you can. I know, easier said than done. Being positive all the time is tough, especially when it does feel like nothing is working out in your favor.

You have control over everything that happens to you. You can take a terrible experience and make it into an enlightening life lesson. You are in control of everything that happens to you. Positive or negative. You cannot allow someone to mess with your head or make you feel inferior to them unless you allow it. This does not mean to blame yourself for the actions of the other person or having any type of regrets. You cannot go back in time and change meeting that person or allowing them into your life. You can only allow how you respond to how they have treated you. If someone does you wrong, you walk away. If someone does you right and you aren't interested, well, you also walk away. The most beneficial thing about being screwed over is that it makes you wise. Letting people into your life helps you grow and teaches you how you want to be treated by someone. Just because you got screwed over does not mean there is anything wrong with you. In fact, it could mean whoever did the screwing over just was not ready for you.

Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
