It's finally here, the best season of the year. The three single months we spend the entire school year looking forward to and because they are so greatly anticipated we want to make the most of them. Especially because at this point, as college students, we have very few summer vacations left. So in order to make each summer day count follow this simple set of steps in your first weeks home and then prepare to have the best summer yet.
1. Relax.
This is the first step because after the hell that was finals week you deserve some time to just chill. So give yourself a few days of doing nothing and just catching up on your Netflix. You will need your energy later on to conquer summer.
2. Clean up.
Maybe this is just me, but getting home from college equals a very messy room. There is at least five loads of dirty laundry to do and a lot of unpacking and organizing that needs to get done. Taking a day or two to get your room back in order will make the rest of your summer less chaotic and make spending time in your tidy room more enjoyable. Even if it only stays clean for two weeks.
3. Refresh yourself.
I guess this step relates to the first one but while relaxing also take the time to spruce up your appearance. Put on a nice face mask, paint your toes, get rid of that dry winter skin so you can go into summer looking your very best.
4. Plan it out.
The key to a great summer is a clear idea of what you want to do. Writing down a list of ideas of things you want to accomplish will help you actually realize those goals. Do some research and find local things to do with your friends and make sure to add some things you have always meant to do but never had the time.
5. Get a haircut.
Personally, I think the key to starting the summer off right is getting a hair cut. Just the idea of having a fresh look makes the summer feel more exciting. In my mind, cutting your hair short is ideal for the hot months ahead but even just changing up your style or getting a trim can make a big difference.
6. Find some recipes.
The summer is a great time to try new things like learning to cook recipes. Even if you have never cooked before in your life try to learn a new iced tea recipe or even just how to bake cookies the skill will come in handy later on and everyone needs something delicious to drink all summer long.
7. Go shopping.
This is one of the most important steps. Even if you're near broke don't be afraid to treat yourself to at least one new summer item. Pick out a versatile new sundress or even just new sunglasses and even just that small boost to your wardrobe will make a huge difference.
8. Get inspired.
Let the warm air and sun encourage you to try something new and adventurous. Make a Pinterest board of ideas and actually do some of them for once. Of course you may have to spend a lot of your summer working but that doesn't mean it can't be fun. Take a moment to think outside that box and really work to make summer great.
Those eight steps seem pretty simple but feel free to omit any that don't suit you or your time frame. I mean I don't want to tell you how to live your life. But some of them are really important to just getting your life together in general and I know we could all use a little help with that.
