Getting Ready for Christmas
History

Now that Thanksgiving is done with, everyone is mostly is focused on getting ready for the Christmas season. Despite the fact that it's about a month away, there are those people that just love to focus on Christmas as soon as the last Thanksgiving plate is served to the grandma or uncle.

There are those that immediately begin to put up their Christmas tree a day or two after Thanksgiving and before their kids go back to school to finish the rest of the semester. I know that's what me and a few of my friends did in each of our homes before we came back to school to try and survive the rest of the second semester. I think the reason why most people like to do their Christmas trees and put up their decorations is so they can begin to have those happy, fuzzy feelings on the inside when they see strands of lights being hung up outside their house.

Even though I was a bit rushed in terms of putting up my Christmas tree, I liked seeing the lights being lit up, the strands of garland being there to make the tree shimmer and all of the ornaments that give my tree the sense of uniqueness, it just made me feel happy that it was time for me to start thinking of my favorite holiday of the year.

Another thing that people can officially start listening to Christmas music on the radio and that's really something that puts them in a holly jolly mood. I know that as soon as the day after Thanksgiving began, I immediately turned on the radio to the Christmas music station. My mother rolled her eyes at me and I was like, "It's the day after Thanksgiving mom! We can finally start listening to the Christmas music!" I have even started listening to it on my own whenever I am doing homework and it just gets me thinking about how we are getting closer and closer to the holidays.

The other thing that I like to do whenever the holidays begin is that I like to pull out my collection of favorite Christmas movies that I watch around this time of year. Christmas movies also put me in a happy mood because of what the stories are about and how they just make me laugh all the way. Some of my favorite Christmas films include Elf, The Polar Express, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Christmas with the Kranks and a few others that I like to enjoy over a cup of hot chocolate and a bowl of popcorn. It's nice to enjoy these films with my friends and family members because it really does give us a chance to sit back, relax and remind ourselves why Christmas is such a lovely time of year.

Overall, getting ready for Christmas is a month long process that most people like to become a part of. Whether it would be shopping to buy gifts for the ones that they love or putting up decorations around the house, Christmas is such a lovely holiday to get ready for. I just love thinking about it a few days after the official day of the holiday because of how just happy it makes me just seeing my friends and family spend time together with me. I'm sure that everyone has their favorite holiday traditions that they like to do with the ones that they love that makes Christmas more memorable for them. However one chooses to spend their holiday, one thing is clear and that is that it makes us all happy and grateful for the things we have in this world.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
