Hey, future Spelman sisters !

In this article, I will be giving you advice on getting into Spelman College. To begin, there are four things that are important when applying to Spelman. Those four things are your G.P.A, SAT/ACT scores, community service hours, and your application essay. These four things will honestly make or break your application and it is important that your application stands out. Now let's go more in depth.

Your G.P.A matters when applying to Spelman. When I applied to Spelman I had a 3.7 G.P.A and knew others who had a 2.5 G.P.A that were accepted. However, the game has changed for you all and the higher your G.P.A the better your chances are getting into Spelman. So, I personally would aim for a 3.6 or higher G.P.A in order to satisfy that requirement.

Start studying for the SAT or ACT NOW ! Practice makes perfect and this is true when it comes to these two exams. From my understanding, you all need at least 1370 on the SAT or 20 on the ACT in order to meet the requirements. However, I would shoot for 1500 on the SAT and 25 on the ACT. I say this because we all know Spelman is VERY expensive but being at the top of the applicant pool may land you an academic scholarship. Who doesn't like free tuition ? I know I would LOVE that ! There is no secret or formula to passing these exams at all. All you need to do is practice and become familiar with the test. Also, Spelman super scores on the SAT which mean they will take the highest total in each section and that will count towards your overall score. Something that helped me out was focusing on one section and scoring high in that section and repeating the process for another section.

Community Service ! This one is huge because this applies to EVERY college or university.Admissions want to see a well-rounded student. Which means, do not just focus on your academics and think that is okay. Now, I am not saying your academics are not important but, finding time to participate in other activities on campus or in your community is important. So join clubs at your school that you're interested in, volunteer at organizations in your community, and run for a leadership position if you're really bold. Also, you can also receive the Bonner Scholarship at Spelman if you have a lot of community service hours and meet their special requirements. Get out and get involved and enjoy meeting new people while helping others.

When I applied to Spelman our essay was basically about doing a community service event that changed our life (This is not accurate lol). I spoke about this organization that my high school AVID club joined. With that organization, we fundraised and created events on campus to send our assigned student to school in Bali, Indonesia. Your essay is important so please do not submit an essay that you created 4 hours before the deadline. Please take it serious because admissions get to know you through your essay. I believe the prompt stays the same every year but you can always check it out when the application opens. I know it is going to be hard to balance your senior year and applying to colleges so, I would suggest you work on a section every day. Really think through the prompt and have someone revise it so you can submit your best work. Please do not be like me and not take the essay part serious because you meet all of the other requirements. As a result, I was denied by Howard University so learn from my mistakes.

If you have any other questions please ask me here. Also, check out my video for more advice on getting into Spelman. This is information is from my personal experience so please understand that my experience will not be the same as yours.Good luck on your application process and I hope to see you all in the Fall !

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?
