College apps came and went for most of us, and for a lot of us it was a truly intense experience, filled with ups and downs and rollercoasters of emotions as we anxiously tried to fill in all of the requirements and make sure everything was perfect and then we came upon the most dreaded part of all, the infamous college essay, the gateway of some sorts that separated applicants into specific fields on what made us different.
So yeah, we wrote these essays in a variety of different ways, all ultimately trying to show the admissions people that we were unique from someone else who may have had the same GPA as us or the same amount of volunteer work or whatever.
But what if, we were allowed to write what we really felt about the college on this? Or, better yet, what we really wanted them to know about us in comparison to the other people...
Dear Dream College,
I know I could say something sappy and metaphorical here about how I paint or write or go around in the rain trying to dodge raindrops and how that explains my character and emotions and the value I'll bring to your institution, but forget all that, I'm simply here to tell you why I'm better than whoever's application you just read.
A lot of factors go into me being better than that guy or girl. First of all, whatever they told you is probably complete crap. Sometimes you have to realize that we can lie a lot in these essays to make us seem better than we actually are, I mean is a white lie really such a big deal? But if anything in this instance, you should be happy that I am approaching this whole thing with the honesty and candor that I am going to bring to your institution.
I think what's really important here is that the honesty that goes behind being totally open like this with an admissions officer is what will make me a good fit into the institution. Sure I could've written this essay about how I write raps or write stories or paint or have dreams of being the first brown president some day but why spew nonsense when I can just tell you how I am?
I'm a decent student, I know what I want to be in life, for the most part, and I will eventually most likely have an identity crisis halfway through college where I start questioning everything and want to change my major because Pre-med just won't work much anymore. But at the end of the day what's important is that I will not have lied or overhyped myself to get myself into your institution. I will have given you the whole truth, and even if this isn't the amount of words that you would like it to be, the value behind this is genuine and it should trump that essay from the previous person about water petals personifying their thoughts about the middle east conflict.
Thank you,
Your future best student
