Getting Away From Life

A Detox for the Daily Grind

Getting Away From Life

It's not easy living a busy life. Often work, school, family, or any number of other things consume much of our time. By the time we get home from work, or finish homework, or getting all the kids to settle for the night, the day is gone and we're too tired to do anything more than crawl into bed and crash. And we usually do this over and over and over without fail and without a break. So it's no surprise when our bodies and minds finally give way.

I have found a great way to prevent myself from burning out is to stop everything and get away. I know it's not that easy, especially with a full and busy schedule, but it's important we realize the need for downtime. We need to take the time to stop, recharge and recenter ourselves by removing ourselves from our daily lives. We can just relax and enjoy life when we don't have to worry about getting work done, finishing that assignment, or getting the kids dressed and fed without mishap.

Time away allows our minds to decompress without the stress of needing to get this done or having to pay that bill dominating our minds. That means when we get back to our lives, we'll be better able to cope with the stress that comes with daily living. For those of us with little time to spare, take an hour to go to the park and just sit and people watch.

If you have a little more time, get in your car and get out of the city for a couple of hours or the whole day. Whether we take a little time or a lot of it, the important thing is that we disconnect from our daily grind and spend some time doing things that we don't normally do.

In doing so, we will not only de-stress ourselves but help ourselves to better handle what daily life has to throw at us. So go ahead, take some time to get away. You deserve it.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.
