Getting Accepted Into Grad School

Both a sense of relief and slight panic

Getting Accepted Into Grad School

In the last week I have received an acceptance letter and an interview at two of the three chiropractic schools I have applied to.

EXCITING….right?

You wouldn't be wrong if you said yes. But you wouldn't be completely right either.

I was at work when I received the acceptance email from Parker University in Dallas, Texas. I was completely overwhelmed with joy and probably could have cried. It was one of my top three schools with an amazing education/curriculum and is located in a Chiropractic hub. There are so many great workshops and conferences located in Dallas that I would be presented with so many great opportunities.

So as you'd suspect I was pretty pumped about getting accepted.

And I totally was because if you're anything like me you panic about the potential of never being accepted to any of the schools you apply to. Take myself, for example, I have applied to three schools, have a few more to apply too and have planned an entire alternative plan on the off chance I do not get accepted.

It was totally a huge relief to get accepted because now I know that I ALWAYS have an option. Plus like that is a HUGE accomplishment, I am one step closer to my goals.

However, then you have to think about everything else; enrollment, enrollment deposit, apartments, moving across the country, financial aid and taking out loans, do I go visit before deciding and all the other adult stuff no one wants to think about. As an acceptee to this school, I totally want to go visit but as a broke college student I don't want to spent the money on it.

There are so many decisions to be made. So many options.

But here's the solution

Take a step back, breathe, relax.

Focus on the tasks that are due now, complete your bachelor's or master's degree, relieve stress and sleep. You have time, you do not have to commit to a school right away. Make a list, pros and cons of each school you have been accepted to. If you find the time, visit them and see where you fit in the best.

The key is to slow down. You have accomplished something amazing by being accepted let that sink in before you panic about something else.

You DID it so you WILL be able to do it again.
