There are a lot of negative stigmas that go around with piercings (especially facial ones), tattoos and colorful hair. Even though I can admit these things have become more acceptable, a lot of people are so quick to judge based on someones apprentice...which isn't okay. What someone does to their body is their OWN business. If you don't like piercings, tattoos, or colorful hair, fine, you have your right to an opinion. Please, just don't undermine me just because you don't agree with my fashion choices. No one said you have to get piercings, a dragon tattoo, and blue hair!
Now, I've had my fair share of awkward looks, people whispering and even avoiding me because of the way I look. I've learned to just laugh it off because I love my nose piercings and colorful hair...but it still bothers me slightly when some old person won't let me pet their dog because of my septum ring. Yes, you read that right. Apparently, getting your septum pierced makes you a weirdo who might hurt animals. I promise, I probably know more about animal care than you do...and your dog really doesn't care if I have a piece of metal in my nose. Now stop being a judgmental prick (excuse my french).
Another thing that I hate about this whole situation is when people say "you're going to regret that"...so? I like myself for who I am now, and that's all that matters. What I do to my body makes me unique, I'm not hurting anyone else. My tattoos are a piece of art, my hair is beautiful and my piercings make me feel pretty bad ass, so please get over it. If years down the road I decide that I regret what I'm doing now, I'll still have some pretty awesome memories and stories to tell. You only have one life, so why not make it interesting?
I paid a lot of money for my body to have works of art on it, my face to be sporting cool jewelry and for my hair to be all sorts of colors of the rainbow, which is okay. I work very hard for my money, so I can spend it how I see fit. My bills still get paid. So, next time you see a person on the street with some wacky colored hair, stretched ears, piercings and ink on their skin ...appreciate them (and don't be an asshole). Odds are they're decent people who spent a lot of time and money trying to look the way they do.
Have you ever experienced judgement based on the way you look or have seen it done to others? Share your stories in the comments, I'd like to hear. Also show me those tattoos, piercings and cool looking hair....I love that stuff!
