After Months Of Not Working Out, I've Found The One Foolproof Way To Get My Ass To The Gym

You might need to grab a chair for this one because this next sentence is going to shock you.

I, Cristina Formichelli, have been going to the gym.

If you need time to reread that and come back to the rest of the article I understand.

In high school I was very active, I played a sport every season, so I never really needed to focus on staying fit since I was literally ALWAYS at practice. Once I got to college, however, things changed. I think I walked into the gym LESS than ten times the entire year? Like, that bad.

This year, however, I found something that keeps me going back.

I thought I'd share this knowledge with all of you, in case some of you are going through something similar. Or, if you're just looking for a way to get yourself actually EXCITED about going, you're in the right place. Get ready, because here it comes:

Start a new Netflix series, podcast, or some form of entertainment that you ONLY consume at the gym.

Maybe some of you don't know this, but I absolutely LOVE "The Try Guys." I eat up every single bit of content they put out. That being said, I absolutely adore their most recent project, the "TryPod," which is their podcast! Since I've been at school, I've been missing out on time to watch it AND having trouble fitting into my day a time when I could sit down and pay attention (they have a video version that I prefer).

I finally made a rule with myself — Cristina, under NO circumstances can you watch the "TryPod" unless you are on a treadmill. No exceptions.

So I've been sticking to it! Every weekday I look forward to half an hour I spend watching half an episode of the "TryPod" while I run. I'm very behind and won't catch up for a while still, so that's what's been keeping me going!

I've been feeling so much better about myself now that I've been going too. Much prouder, since my freshman year I hardly did anything productive other than schoolwork. Even still, other than Odyssey and my honors organization that hardly meets, I still haven't gotten involved a ton with organizations at the school, that's my next project.

Anyways, I hope this helps anyone! I just thought I'd share with you guys how I've been able to get my lazy ass up after classes and go to the gym, maybe it can help you too!

If you need advice on what to start, Netflix's original "Big Mouth" will have you laughing and you'll want to work out for even longer to keep binge-watching. Similarly, another Netflix original, "Disenchantment," just came out with a new season, which will probably be my next form of entertainment when I start running out of "TryPods."

See? Easy. Now, get in there!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
