Get To Know Us: Jamie Wheeler

Hi guys!

My name is Jamie Wheeler, and I am a new writer for The Odyssey. You can expect many articles coming your way, but for now, I should tell you a little about myself. I’ll assume you have some questions for me.

Where do you attend school?

I’m a junior at Georgia Southern University, where I’m pursuing a BA in English.

Okay, but what are you going to do with an English degree?

Well, I should start by saying that English is an excellent choice as a major, and I am offended by your tone. Really, I hope to someday teach high school. As long as my career involves literature, I know I’ll be happy.

What is your spirit animal?

A snow leopard, but not a very aggressive one.

Talents?

I just have so many. I play both clarinet and ukulele, but my real gift is cutting paper snowflakes. I can say the alphabet backwards, and I’m great at avoiding conversation. But wait, there's more. I also do a mediocre Celine Dion impression. Plus, I know all the words to every song in NSYNC’s No Strings Attached album.

Passions and interests?

I love reading, and I’m a huge musical theater fan. I also love Disney, Corgis, 90’s romantic comedies, corn dogs, and Elton John.

What are your feelings about Shrek?

It is utterly hilarious, and clearly the best movie of all time. If you disagree, you’re wrong.

Anything else you’d like us to know?

I laugh at everything, I always request The Electric Slide at parties, and I’m extremely excited to continue writing for The Odyssey. Until next time, guys!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
