Let's dive into my life together!

Get To Know Me!

Hello! My name is Jessica Jenkins but you can just call my Jessie. I've never written an article for a group before so I thought the best place to start was to write one about myself! That way, I can hopefully better connect with my readers as I write more. A little background - I lived in New York before I moved to North Carolina. As of this year, I have been in North Carolina for 13 years. I grew up in Raleigh and that is where I currently live still. I move to Greensboro for college because I stay on campus.

Let's talk about my passions. I started playing instruments in the 6th grade and I have continued playing them to this day. All throughout high school, I was involved in various different music playing groups. I participated in the marching band, concert band, pep bands, and high honors level bands. I was so into music that I almost started my path in college as a music major with a concentration in education to become a band director. What changed that choice was my passion for writing poetry. I took a creative writing class in my junior year and I had an amazing teacher. He inspired me to pursue my passion for English as a whole and teach it. Come April of my senior year, I had been accepted into the Wake County Future Teacher's Program. It is a huge blessing to be able to follow my dreams and have a whole group of people supporting me.

Next up are my hobbies. I absolutely love to go biking. I live right by a greenway trail and every couple of days, I would go out and bike at least 4 miles. Most days it was 9 miles or more. Biking was a huge coping mechanism for me. I would listen to music and it would help alleviate stress. It also doubled as a way for me to stay fit and get exercise. Another one of my hobbies is playing video games. I'm extremely basic and I really only play Minecraft and Valorant. I have made many online friends while playing these games and it makes gameplay much more fun. One last hobby that I have, I mentioned earlier, is writing poetry. Being able to freely express anything that I feel through the form of poetry helps me so much. Whether it is writing out my feelings or writing about what I observe in nature around me, it's just such a beautiful way to express my views. My love for writing is actually what inspired me to join The Odyssey!

I hope this article helped you learn a little more about me. Don't hesitate to reach out to me, my Instagram is on my profile. I love making new friends and meeting new people! See you all next week.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
