Get To Know Me

A glimpse into the person behind the pieces.

Get To Know Me
Lexi Lawroski

If you had to explain yourself to someone new in 20 words or less, what would you say?

I live my life freely, and I am never bound by impressions or expectations of others. I love beautiful things & never say no to adventure.

Why did you start writing for Odyssey?

Dani, our editor, put the idea in my head! I have always loved writing & for the longest time wanted to be journalist, so as that dream faded to the outskirts of my brain, it was a welcome opportunity to contribute my two cents to this community!

It’s one thing to sign up for an opportunity like this, but it’s another thing to stay committed and give it your all. What has kept you writing for the team?

I love writing. I love words. Most importantly, I love to speak my mind. I procrastinate every article (as well as just about everything) but I submit one every week, on whatever happens to peak my interest. I am always in pursuit of inspiration, and I always aim to inspire.

What would you tell someone who is interested in writing for Odyssey? Any words of wisdom you have? Any warnings?

Know what you are signing up for! I didn't quite grasp the commitment factor, but I am so thankful that I am held to a deadline. Make sure you have time & that you actually care.

What’s your favorite article that you’ve had published?

I love my 5 Things Everyone With a Big Italian Family Knows, because it hits home with a lot of people, beyond just my family, and sharing this universality is amazing!

Would you ever let someone in your life design a tattoo for you, and would you get the tattoo done without knowing what it was? If so, who and why? If not, why?

This question tears at my very nature, because I so badly want to say yes, but the little Type-A side of me freaks out at the thought. But yes, probably, if I was caught on a whim. I'm not exactly sure who, but probably my mother or my cousin Anna, because I think both of them know me pretty well, so long as they didn't take the opportunity to play a joke on me!

Which TV show or movie cast do you wish you could be a part of?

Oooooh, probably Scrubs. It is one of my favorite shows & I just think it would be a good time.

If you could live in any time period, when would you choose? Why?

Can I say the future? I'm going with the future, because honestly, I just want us to keep moving forward.

Which fashion trend of the past or present makes you cringe the most? Which one do you wish stayed around or became more popular?

Gauchos. Oh, why you existed, I will never know. But everyone had a pair and everyone loved them... never come back ( I see you, culottes). I wish tea length, old-Hollywood esque dresses & skirts were popular; they are just so cute!

Would your five year old self be happy with your current career choice? Or did you have a different idea of what you wanted to do when you were younger?

When I was younger, I wanted to do everything (spoiler alert: still somewhat do) I possibly could. I wanted to be a teacher, a nanny, an astronaut, a brain surgeon, a lawyer, a meteorologist, a journalist.... just about everything. Working at an art studio isn't something I would have ever imagine, but I definitely think 5 year old me would dig it.

What are you most looking forward to in the next year?

Applying to colleges, getting into colleges (fingers crossed), graduating, & finally starting the next chapter of my life! Oh, and just having a blast during senior year!

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
