Get Ready For Phoebe Ryan

Know music's next breakout star before everyone else.

Get Ready For Phoebe Ryan

A few weeks ago, The Chainsmokers released a follow-up single after their success with mega-hit “Closer,” featuring Halsey. This new single is entitled “All We Know,” which features Phoebe Ryan.

When I found out that their new single features Ryan, I was beyond excited. I encountered her music one day my freshman year while doing work; her mash-up of “Ignition/Do You” is beyond genius. I was immediately obsessed with her music after that. I cannot think of any other artist who can come up with such a unique mash-up. She made these two songs blend perfectly together, completely transforming each of the songs’ original respective genres and molding them into an electro-dream-pop gem. Ryan took these two songs and made them her own, breaking down certain unseen barriers in the process of doing so. Both “Ignition” and “Do You” are songs by males that contain themes and lyrics that are not typically considered “feminine,” so to speak (I am talking about “Ignition” more so than “Do You” here, but the drugs reference in “Do You” still applies to this statement). For Phoebe Ryan to take these songs and make them her own is so incredibly, well, awesome. Her mash-up contributes to the changing position of gender roles within the music scene without anyone truly realizing it, and for that I applaud Ryan to no end.

So, since then, Phoebe Ryan has clearly been on my radar, and I have been anxiously awaiting more music from her. She has released some singles since then, including “Mine,” and has an ultra-catchy song with Jaymes Young called “We Won’t.” Ryan’s unique voice makes her such an underrated artist today. I want her to achieve mass-success in the music industry, and think she really can. Ryan’s style will hopefully help her to achieve the success similar to the likes of Halsey, Melanie Martinez, etc.

Ryan’s feature on “All We Know” is a huge step for her career. The Chainsmokers's recent breakout success could help Ryan get more recognition and help her to rise to the top in her genre and in the music industry overall. It is time for her true talents to be recognized and for her true potential in the music scene to be tapped. Ryan is cool, strong, and incredibly talented; I want the rest of music-listeners to realize that and enjoy her music, too. I have a feeling this is only the beginning for her, and before anyone can blink twice, we will be seeing Phoebe Ryan’s name everywhere.

So prepare yourself for a future musical takeover that will change the music scene for the better.

Get ready for Phoebe Ryan.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
