Sometimes writers struggle to find the next word in their masterpieces. Here are some suggestions for when there's no word on the tip of your tongue.

Pick up a favorite book from when you were little.

Read an excerpt. Then either rewrite the next part, or write in a style similar to that author.

Keep a list of crazy character ideas.

For example, an old woman who lives in a castle in Texas and spends most of her time playing the saxophone to her goldfish, Rusty. They can come from bits and pieces of your friends' lives or from snippets of conversations you hear throughout your day.

Try a different genre.

If your medium is usually poetry, write a little dialogue for a play.

Turn on a timer for five minutes.

During that time, write down every word you can think of. You might come across some interesting connections.

Take a day off.

Binge watch your favorite show. Go grab lunch with a friend. Come back tomorrow and try again.
