A few tips on how to enjoy college.

Nobody likes a party pooper.

If all you're going to do is sit at a friends party and not say anything or stay on your phone, then please leave.

One of the most important things to do in college is to have fun. Now don't go out and go to every party that you can, just find some friends and hang out with them, and make some time to enjoy yourself. The key to surviving college is to balance your studies with time for yourself (A.K.A. fun time!) Here are some tips that will help you be more outgoing and have an exciting time at college:

1. Make friends

If you haven't already, try making new friends. Talk to people you're sitting by in class or that you see every day when you're getting lunch. Be social and talk to people. You'll be surprised at the amount of people who would love to talk and possibly hang out with you. And all you have to do is simply introduce yourself.

2. Be silly/friendly

Don't be the annoying person that everyone hates, but be goofy. Don't be afraid to laugh and make jokes and stand out. When you're walking past people, don't stare and gawk, but smile and say hello. It's going to make people think that you're nice and they'll want to talk to you then. And you never know, you could just make someone's day.

3. Have an open mind

One of the biggest problems that I had in college was thinking that you had to be similar to your best friends. I thought that cliques were still a thing and I was wrong. Most of my friends now are extremely different from me and that is OK! Not everyone has to be just like you, and you don't have to be like everyone else. Keep in mind that people come from different backgrounds and they're going to act and be different from you.

4. Don't be afraid

Express yourself! Tell people about you and your life. Explain to them why you are who you are and why you decided to come to college. I came because I've always wanted to and I love school. Don't be too scared to start a conversation with a total stranger.

5. Be yourself

Not only should you be yourself in college, but also every day. Be who you are, not who someone wants you to be. It's better to be liked for your own personality rather than someone who tries too hard to fit in. By being yourself, your new friends will like you more and then you will be able to be more social.

College is supposed to be the best time of someone's life, so make it fun! Go out and make new friends, go to activities on campus, and learn how to balance the fun with your education. Don't get crowded with too much studying. Get out there and have fun!

Friendship. It's defined as the state of being attached to another person by feelings of affection or personal regard, but what really is friendship? Is it that occasional hallway talk with that one person who always manages to cheer you up? Is it that relationship you have with someone where they can be gone for a long period of time, but when they come back, it's like they never left? Is it spending every waking hour with someone, and knowing every detail about their life? Is it the relationship that's filled with fighting, but filled with even more resolution? I've learned that it's all of these things, and every friendship is different. It's a beautifully dysfunctional mess that should always be cherished and never be taken for granted.

Bailey Totten

I've known you your entire life. More than likely I held you in the first three days of it and at least one of us cried. Cousins are truly one of the best things in the world and while sometimes I complain about how many people crowd Grandma's living room on Christmas Eve, I wouldn't trade you all anything.

You are my best friends, the only people who can understand what it's like on Thanksgiving, and you are the spunkiest people I have ever met. But you as so so young, most of you are just now starting your adventures in the public education system. I mean, I'm so very young too. I'm not married, I don't have children, heck, I just started my adult life, but I do want to give you what little advice I have. My dears, these are the things I want you to know.
