Get Out Of Your Own Head

Instead, jump into your life.

Get out of your own head. Now. You know what I mean when I say this. Stop turning over thoughts again and again, like a laundry dryer tumbling over the same matter until everything is dried up. Until your mind is dried up, made up, and you make assumptions about some situation that are misunderstood by default. You are participating in ultimate self-destruction. So, stop.

You are creating a reality in your head that does not align with the one that your external environment is actually providing. It is not okay to take bits and pieces of your earthly experiences and turn them into an outcome or a feeling. Because you are not getting the whole picture. You cannot assume the worst of simple occurrences and you cannot predict an unfortunate outcome that has not even happened yet. Have a little more faith in yourself. And in life.

Because the fact of the matter is that you don’t know what is going on inside other people’s heads. You don’t know what they are thinking, feeling, or even if they are thinking or feeling at all. Turning over an event or a circumstance constantly and jumping to conclusions does not allow for you to enjoy the dance of life.

So, like I said, get out of your own head. No good comes from residing there. Instead, participate in your life. Hope for the best, prepare for the best, and be the best person you can be. When you hurt someone, apologize. And when others hurt you, try your hardest to accept their apology. Because we’re all trying our hardest to make it by and no one has it easy. Have compassion. Practice empathy. Be one with your soul. Let it be.

Get out of your own head and into the wild. Dance through the wilderness and sing loud and proud. Connect with as many human beings as you can and find your points of common interest. Celebrate those things. But find your differences, also, and celebrate those even more. Your mind will open in mysterious and enchanting ways when you give up your narrow view of how life should be lived.

Get out of your own head because you’re so small. There’s so much more than just you and you should become something bigger and better than just yourself. Join hands with others and forget about your problems for a while. Remember why your beating heart is here. It’s here to share in each day with others. As much as this world seems to get worse with each day that passes, we must not forget that. Look up from your phone. Just put your phone away. The people in front of you are remarkably more important than your phone screen. And if you must use it, stop texting. Call. Listen to the rise and fall of the inflection in the person’s voice. Listen for the emotion and pay attention to which words they emphasize. There’s a big difference between “I LOVE you” and “I love YOU.”

Get out of your own head and stop thinking about things that may never happen, that don’t matter, or which create an alternate reality in which you begin to live….

Get out of your own head, unpack your bags right where you are, and use what you have in the ways that you can to spread love and laughter over everything you know.

If I have learned one thing in my lifetime, it is that friends are a privilege. No one is required to give you their company and yet there is some sort of shared connection that keeps you together. When it comes to television, there’s very few sets of on-screen siblings that a lot of us can relate to. Only those who have grown up with siblings knows what it feels like to fight, prank, and love a sibling. Ross and Monica Geller were definitely overbearing and overshared some things through the series of "Friends," but they captured perfectly what real siblings feel in real life. Some of their antics were funny, some were a little weird but all of them are completely relatable to brothers and sisters everywhere.

Every kid in college and/or high school dreams of summer the moment they walk through the door on the first day back in September. It becomes harder and harder to focus in classes and while doing assignments as the days get closer.
