Disney has made its name with many entries in films, animations, etc. One, in particular, that has stood out since the 50's is "DuckTales". Centered around Donald Duck and his family, the "DuckTales" comics showed Donald, Scrooge, Donald's triplet nephews, and so forth going on various adventures. Eventually in 1987, the comics were adapted as a cartoon, becoming a household name for both Disney and the Disney Afternoon.
It was announced recently, that "DuckTales" will receive a modern adaptation/reboot that will air on Disney XD. But, unlike "Teen Titans GO!" and the new "Powerpuff Girls", this version of "DuckTales" gives us so many reasons to look forward to it and to believe it'll be of great quality.
How and why, do you ask? Let's find out! Here are the 9 reasons to get excited for the new "DuckTales":
1. It's being helmed by the crew of "Gravity Falls"
Disney XD's hit show may be over, but its legacy lives on.Many of the staff of "Gravity Falls" have moved on to this legendary title, showing that the quality we saw there will be promised and delivered in "DuckTales".
2. The art style
If you look closely at the colors of the logo, they're using halftones— something barely used in modern comics anymore aside from paying homage to the classics. Plus, the overall art-style is a lot more streamlined; while it may not resemble the Disney Renaissance era as the original did, the new looks give this show a definite identity and not just a shadow of the old.
3. Donald will be around this time
The Disney mascot whose creation birthed the entire Duck franchise will now be a main character; a stark contrast from the original show where he was rarely around due to his sailor service as part of the Navy. Hopefully, his luck isn't as bad as it usually is.
4. It's more faithful than the 1987 Ducktales
While the original "DuckTales" cartoon is a classic, there's no denying that it wasn't as faithful to the comics. Donald, for one, is not around as much and Scrooge wore a blue jacket. This time around, Donald is around to accompany his extended family in all their hilarity, and Scrooge is wearing his signature red jacket.
5. The dang theme song
Be ready to carry this tune to your grave once again...
6. The cast
As seems to be the staple with Disney's works, the cast is full of phenomenal talent. Tony Anselmo reprises as Donald obviously. To list just Donald's triplet nephews and Webby, Danny Pudi of "Community" is Heuy, Ben Schwartz of "Parks and Recreation" is Dewey, Bobby Moynihan of "Saturday Night Live!" is Louie, and Kate Miccuci of "The Big Bang Theory" is Webby.
But wait, there's more....
7. David Tennant is the voice of Scrooge McDuck
Yup.Barty Crouch Jr., Kilgrave, and the Tenth Doctor himself is voicing Donald Duck's Scottish uncle who made his name being tougher than the toughies and smarter and the smarties (and made it square)!
Not only does Tennant carry on Alan Young's legacy by pulling off Scrooge's voice very well, he's ACTUALLY Scottish. Here's to hoping he's Scrooge's official voice actor going forward aka hope we hear him as Scrooge in "Kingdom Hearts 3".
8. Lin-Manuel Miranda is the voice of Gizmoduck
No, someone did not slip something into your drink. The master songwriter will join as none other than Gizmoduck, aka Fenton Crackshell. Though this time around, it's Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera and he's now Latino, just like his actor.
9. It's the herald of a new Disney Afternoon
D23 has recently just passed and it revealed that new cartoon adaptations/reboots of "Big Hero 6" , "Frozen", and "The Muppets" are on their way.
As the original Disney Afternoon was full of TV adaptations of their movies ("Tarzan", "Lion King") and originals ("Gargoyles", etc), this new lineup, while not anything new per say, has a lot of movie adaptations. This shows that while it may not carry the title, the Disney Afternoon is coming back.
The original "DuckTales" was many of our childhoods and it's now coming back to become the childhood of our younger siblings, children, and so on. I don't know about you, but I'm excited and eagerly waiting for August 12th to arrive.
Sing it with me, "'DuckTales', whoo-hoo!"
