When I lived in Santiago last semester, I experienced three months of summer. When I returned to the U.S., I came back to the summertime. Needless to say, I’ve had enough of summer, and so I say “bring on the fall!” In honor of me ending my nine months of summer weather, here are nine reasons to be excited for fall.
1. Colorful trees
Leaves changing and falling is incredibly beautiful, and definitely more fun than the green trees we usually see — at least in my opinion. Fall leaves are a reminder and incredible display of God’s handiwork. Plus, I’m still a kid at heart who constantly wants to go jump in them.
2. Cooler weather
Heat + humidity ≠ my ideal day. In the fall, you don’t need to feel sweat pouring down simply walking to and from class. You don’t need to worry about needing AC because it’s too hot or wearing layer upon layer because it’s too cold. Everything is simply just right.
3. Sweaters
Not only are these my favorite article of clothing, but it’s the perfect time of the year for them. You don’t necessarily need a sweater when you head out, but they’re fashionable, comfortable and essential for fall.
4. Bonfires
The cool breeze with the warmth of the fire is perfection. The season is literally begging you to hang out with friends around the fire pit. Don’t ignore its beckon. Plus, throw in some s’mores, and you’re golden.
5. Hayrides
Essentially, anything done on a farm from corn mazes to pumpkin patches to haunted houses galore.
6. Pumpkin everything
Call it a basic white girl move or not, pumpkin flavored [fill in the blank] is omnipresent for the months of September and October. Take advantage of it while it lasts.
7. Halloween
Whether or not you actually enjoy the holiday, you can’t deny that it’s the one day of the year where you can wear anything, call it a costume and not be judged.
8. Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving, though for some it can feel like a winter holiday, actually lives in the fall. What’s not to love about food potlucks?
9. Christmas
Yes, I said it. Christmas. Once you’ve settled into fall, and Halloween and Thanksgiving have passed, Christmas sneaks up on us. It’s not too long before the air is filled with falling glitter and jubilant carols.
