It's November. For the past month or so you've probably been anxiously awaiting going home and getting to see your friends and family for possibly the first time in months. You catch yourself daydreaming about turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, and pies. You listen to Christmas music in your dorm room and think about all the things you're going to do in December. Winter break is coming and you'll most likely be spending a month at home. You probably haven't actually thought about what it's going to be like being off campus for so long. But don't worry, I have.
You'll love seeing your family and friends (at first).
After a few hours, you will have had enough of your family and friends.
You'll spend a shameful amount of time refreshing Snapchat to see who 'that guy you're kind of talking to' is spending his holiday with.
You'll feel so empty without your college best friend.
Since your best friend isn't around, you'll try telling stories of your escapades to your mom. She won't value them and will be concerned.
You'll probably check how far away your friends are at least twice.
That guy from high school is home and suddenly he'll want to "catch up."
Everyone will go on and on about how much you've grown.
Your family, friends, neighbors, and that lady at Publix will all want to know how school is going.
They'll also want to know why you don't have a boyfriend.
You'll eat so much that your clothes won't fit.
You'll miss your routine.
You'll realize Netflix and chill isn't as fun when it's just you binge watching Friends.
Despite your mom's best efforts, you will eventually return to school and life will go on. Before long you'll be missing home again and anticipating the next holiday break. Because, at the end of the day, you do love your family and home isn't so bad.
