Georgia Southern's Student Government Association elections are coming up. Voting begins April 4 and ends on April 6 and can be accessed through My.GeorgiaSouthern. But who should you vote for? The answer is the men of the SpenceWedincamp ticket.
These four men care about Georgia Southern and what's best for its students. They want to help students become prepared for life after graduation while still enjoying their time as students. They want students and organizations to be able to afford what they need through additional scholarships and funding. They are willing to make changes and try new ways to make Georgia Southern even better.
Errol Spence is a first year graduate student at Southern. He is working toward his MPH in health policy andmanagement and is currently running for President of SGA. Here is why you should vote Spence:
He understands the nuances of diplomacy.
Spence knows that being president means understanding what's at stake in order to make accomplishments.
He has the experience.
Through five years of service on SGA, Congressional internships, and experience with the Model United Nations, Spence has the experience to reach his goals in a variety of settings.
He strives for perfection.
He vows to "take care to see to it that the work produced by [SGA] is substantive and meaningful."
He seeks efficiency.
Spence is willing to re-evaluate and make changes to the way that SGA is currently doing business so that it will come to be as efficient as possible.
He will make sure that the members of SGA are engaged in bettering our school.
"SGA should consist of a dynamic group of students who are continually working to encourage thoughtful exchange of concerns and ideas, and [who are] eager to find viable solutions."
He wants students to be aware.
Spence sees great importance in Southern's student body being aware of the social and political climate around us. It is his goal to be continuously aware of how these types of issues are and will be affecting Southern's student body.
He wants students to be prepared for real world challenges.
One of Spence's goals as president is to push for the addition of a behavioral/personal finance course to the core curriculum. This course will help students to prepare for life after graduation and will preemptively combat any setbacks due to student loans and other financial debt.
He's also a pretty good baker.
Spence boasts that apple pie and apple walnut rings are his best dishes.
Michael Wedincamp is a first year graduate student at Southern. He is working toward his Masters of public administration and is currently running for Executive Vice President of SGA. Here's why you should vote Wedincamp:
He wants students' experiences at Southern to be memorable and enjoyable.
Wedincamp vows to work tirelessly for the students at Georgia Southern.
He is involved.
Wedincamp is currently the Vice President elect for the Masters of Public Administration Student Association, a member of the Graduate Student Organization, and a member of the Sexual Assault Student Educators.
He has a passion for effective change.
Wedincamp's life is and always has been about bettering the lives of those around him. He wants to ensure that Georgia Southern's student body has what it needs to thrive and to prosper in school and after graduation.
His main goal is to unite our student body.
Wedincamp wishes to bring senators from each of Southern's colleges together so that each student's voice can be heard.
He cares about representation.
Wedincamp feels that at the forefront of the 2016–2017 SGA agenda should be bringing SGA and other student organization representatives together to create a more productive representation of our student body.
He also enjoys the outdoors.
Some of Wedincamp's favorite pastimes are kayaking and canoeing.
Josh Archer is a senior computer science major, and he is currently running for Vice President of Auxiliary Affairs. Here's why you should vote Archer:
He is well-rounded.
Archer is President of Alpha Tau Omega, a member of the Mathematical Association of America, a volunteer at the local Habitat for Humanity, and a member of Omicron Delta Kappa.
He possesses great leadership skills.
During his time as President of Alpha Tau Omega, he has learned to manage and guide 100 individuals.
He has developed great relationships with school officials.
With his two years of SGA experience already, Archer has had the time to develop relationships with Georgia Southern's administration. These relationships will help him to push for the Eagle Nation's voice to be heard.
He wants to make changes to Southern's meal plans.
Archer's main goal is to create more flexible and affordable meal plans for students. His ideas include adding to the two current types of meal plans in order to allow for a cheaper option to be used two to three days in a week. This will be ideal for students who are not on campus every day.
He wants to make athletic events more enjoyable.
Archer hopes to increase the efficiency of Georgia Southern's athletics so that events are more enjoyable for the student body.
He believes that software should be more accessible to students.
Archer's biggest accomplishment on SGA so far has been the arrival of vLab, which allows for students to download necessary software onto their personal computers rather than going to campus to use it. He plans to push for more software to be added, including major specific software.
He has nine siblings.
As a child from a big family, it's natural to assume that Archer has a big heart. He cares about our student body as if we were all one Eagle family.
Cooper Largent is a junior information technology major who is currently up for re-election for Vice President of Finance. Here's why you should vote Largent:
He is currently the Vice President of Finance.
Largent loves what he does and has already learned to streamline the fund request process for student organizations.
He is involved.
Largent is a member of the Association for Information technology Professionals, a brother of Pi Kappa Alpha, and an active athlete in intramural sports.
He is organized.
As Vice President of Finance, one of Largent's duties is to complete a monthly budget report for each month's Senate meeting. He has created an organized system to help him keep track of the many files needed for him to complete his duties efficiently.
He is experienced.
Largent will not need much time to adjust to the demands of his position as he is already actively doing it. He feels that his experience will allow him to "hit the ground running" for the 2016–2017 year.
He wants to support students.
Largent's main goal for re-election is supporting students and organizations through the quick and efficient allocation of funds.
He wants students to be aware of opportunities for funding.
Largent feels that it is important for students and organizations to know about the types of funding they can receive because he wants all students to be successful on campus.
He has already allocated over $50,000 for students.
Largent has worked and continues to work to make sure that the fund request process for students and organizations is simple and easy, and this has made it easier for him to help students and organization get the funding they need.
He "rocks."
Largent enjoys rock climbing in his free time.
