While these men end a chapter when they leave Georgia Football, the NFL Draft opens a whole new chapter that they have been dreaming about since they were kids.
The first, and most intriguing player that got drafted was Todd Gurley. Gurley, after tearing his ACL back in November, was the first running back since the 2011 NFL Draft to be drafted in the first round. Gurley went to the Rams as they took him for their tenth pick. With Gurley still in recovery, many people are questioning what kind of an impact Gurley will play for the Rams in the recent years to come.
Secondly, Chris Conley went to the Kansas City Chiefs in Round 3 as the 76th overall pick. Chris Conley, who was a key player for the Georgia football team as a wide receiver, made his mark at the NFL combine that caught the eye of many team coaches. With his 20 touchdowns and five 100-yard receiving games throughout his football career at UGA, all Georgia football fans and Chiefs fans are hopeful that he will be a good addition to the team.
Thirdly, linebacker Ramik Wilson was also drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fourth round as the 118th pick overall. He caught the eye of many NFL teams after his best career football year in 2014. He led the team with 56 solo tackles -- 19 of those were in the Georgia Tech game alone. His stance as the second player on the team to have over 110 total tackles gives the defensive coaches of the Chiefs hope that he will make an impact on their defense, just as he did in Athens.
Next, the New Orleans Saints drafted Damian Swann as the 167th overall pick in the fifth round. The defensive back was able to acquire eight interceptions throughout his career with the Georgia football team. Along with interceptions, he had a recorded 1,115 solo tackles that prevented numerous touchdowns. He showed the speed and agility that the New Orleans Saints were looking for when he ran for a 99-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the Georgia Tech game last season.
Lastly, the Indianapolis Colts took linebacker Amarlo Herrera in the sixth round as the 207th overall pick. With his 147 solo tackles, three interceptions, and ability to sack, the Indianapolis Colts drafted him with the belief that he could help their defense in the short and long-term.
While these men were drafted, we cannot forget about all of the free agents from Georgia whom were picked up this year as well.
Corey Moore, who graduated in 2013, was picked up by the Houston Texans as a safety. David Andrews was picked up by the Patriots as a center. Ray Drew was picked up by the Miami Dolphins as a defensive end. Toby Johnson was picked up by the Tennessee Titans as a defensive lineman, and we cannot forget that Hutson Mason was picked up by the Washington Redskins as quarterback.
All of these men, we hope, will go on to do great things and make Bulldog Nation even more proud of them than we already are.
