As with the new year, a new semester always brings with it new things to look forward to, whether it's catching up with your long distance friends or returning to the comfort of your dorm room. So here is a list of 11 things that get all of us excited for the new semester.

1. A change of routine.

Winter break can really bring out your inner laziness, so it's great to fix that habit.

2. Learning new things.

If you are pursuing a major you love, than you'll likely be excited for you new classes.

3. Seeing your friends.

Especially if you haven't seen them all winter break.

4. Meeting new people.

Whether you meet new people in class or around campus, it's always nice to make more friends.

5. Returning to your dorm life.

Ah, room sweet room.

6. Independence.

At home, you live under your parents' rules, so it's nice to have more freedom at college.

7. New professors.

Every teacher brings something special to their students' lives.

8. Weekend fun.

Whether you head to D.C or to a Center of the Arts performance, there is always something to do on the weekend.

9. Perfect studying setting.

Between the library, Starbucks, and the JC, there are a lot of great places to study.

10. Food.

GMU offers a lot of different food options, so there is always something for someone!

11. Another chance to get straight As.

Or whatever your grade goal is. It's nice to start with a clean slate.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.
