Geology Is An Important And Underrated Science

I love rocks and they are so under appreciated.

Geology Is An Important And Underrated Science
Kathryn DeBois

Recently, someone said that I wasn't "normal". They said that because I was into unique things like rocks, I was considered "weird". If liking rocks and the earth makes me "weird" than call me weird because Geology is the most fascinating science ever. I am not saying that because it happens to be most of the classes I take in college, it's because Geology is one of the most underrated and underappreciated sciences out there.

Geology is so much more than studying rocks. It studies basically everything about the earth, such as the science behind Earthquakes, how rivers form and flow, oil, beaches, and the list goes on. It is a critical science for everyone to understand because it affects everyone.

The cement we drive on is geology, the gas that fuels most of our cars is geology, anything related to our resources is geology. Yes there are lot of other disciplines of sciences involved in this, but that's with all sciences. Geology is the core of the earth.

If you think places like the Grand Canyon is beautiful and intriguing, that is all Geology. If you're curious as to why rocks in the river are so smooth compared to rocks found on land, that is Geology. If you find mountains to be beautiful and wonder what makes them the way they are, that is Geology. If you like going on the beach, that is Geology.

Most of the things that I listed above are things that a lot of people find cool or enjoying going too and looking at. I am honored to be someone that studies these things because it shows that Geology isn't all rocks.

Unfortunately, there have been serious earthquakes in California and that is scary. Not a lot of people understand why Earthquakes happen and the exact science behind them. People understand the basics, but geologists are people who study earthquakes and break down this knowledge for everyone. When something tragic like a big earthquake strikes, geologists are the ones who have the answers as to why it possibly happened.

Geologists are important people and there has been this movement to save the Earth because of Climate Change. Geologists are critical people in explaining exactly how the Earth and climate has changed because of resource consumption. Not only that, but they're some of the people who are doing research to find a solution.

It is captivating because Geologists want to save the earth too. They don't just want to look at cool rocks (because rocks are really cool). They want to explain why these rocks and the minerals in them are important, and more.

Geology is about the way our earth works. It combines a lot of sciences in it too. Such as chemistry, understanding geochemistry plays a critical role in a lot of sections of geology. Physics has a part too because geophysics explains why rocks move and more. The biology of Geology is about fossilization and how we can show that evolution has occurred over time.

Every time I hear that someone isn't into Geology because they find that looking at rocks is boring is mind blowing to me. Evidently, Geology is so much more than looking at rocks and it multi-layered very much like the earth. I love Geology and if I got the ability to talk about it with everyone for hours on end, I would because I find the subject so important and so underappreciated.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
