Her name was Jisha. She was a 29-year-old law student from Ernakulam, Kerala (an Indian state in South India on the Malabar coast). Jisha was viciously raped and brutally murdered at her house on the April 26 in Perumbavoor, Ernakulam. Her mutilated body was discovered by her mother on the day of her murder, after she got back from work. According to the police and confirmed by the autopsy, her body was stabbed and her chest was pierced using a dagger. Her vagina was gashed over 20 times and her intestines were drawn out. Major damages on the neck were said to be the primary reason for her death.
Several days after the investigation was launched, a suspect who was taken into custody confessed to committing the atrocious act of inhumanity. He was under the influence of alcohol at the time. He said when the girl resisted he hacked her genitals several times and kicked her in the stomach which caused her abdominal organs to come out.
According to Wikipedia, her body was “disturbingly sliced.” But to me, what was more disturbing is the fact that no one from the neighborhood came forward. There was no cooperation from the neighbors which was a major setback to the progress of this investigation. Some said, because her mother, Rajeshwari was mentally unstable, the neighbors did not associate with her or the family. Although the incident went down on April 26, there was no media coverage until a day later. However, when light was placed on this heinous act of violence, multiple news sources had headlines starting with “Dalit woman…” thereby turning it into a case of religious violence (in the Indian caste system, a Dalit is someone from the lowest caste). The family of the victim claimed that no political leaders or activists had dropped in on the site.
What’s even worse is that rape has become an endemic issue in various parts of the world. In India, for one,it just keeps getting worse. This is just one of the many brutal cases of sexual assault that has been brought to attention. However, they all seem to go down the same path -- fading into the background. The male dominant society keeps attacking the women for what is known to be “the rape culture.” They say the clothes they wear is what set off such form of assaults which makes me question the occurrences of sexual abuse in Saudi Arabia!
Well, to be honest, at this point, I am finally starting to realize why rape is imminent for someone who is born with a pair of boobs and a vagina. I have come to the understanding, as the society would like me to, why rape in most cases, is the victim’s fault. It only makes sense. Let the boys be the boys, girls! Stop complaining. If you are going to go out in clothes baring legs or even hands, you are going to have to deal with what’s coming next. Please don’t kill the moment for them while they are at it. In fact, try enjoying rather than wasting so much energy fighting them. Learn to be a sport, OK? And to the drunk girl, don’t go after him with the case of exploitation. You got drunk, he picked up on your hint. You were asking for it, you got it. Now stop being the whiny b**ch. Kids, you could keep on wearing your set of provocative dresses, I think I am starting to like the sound of “a pedophile” -- has a nice ring to it.
