To the broadcasting network reporting that any major related to fine arts is a bust,
To every friend, peer, educator, and professional who has negative connotations of those seeking a career in music and the arts,
To every individual who says "go for the money, not for your passion,"
Let me kindly say you're wrong.
You're wrong for telling us to go after a paycheck instead of our passion,
You're wrong for telling us that any major in fine arts and music is irrelevant.
You're right that times are changing,
You're right that the demand for certain careers has shifted.
But that's where we come in.
Our generation, the millennials to be exact, have reached their highest potential.
While the "creative" of YOUR generation deemed OUR "creative" irrelevant, incompetent, and uneducated, we're on the rise.
Creative people are quick to adjust to quick demands,
They have learned to survive in the midst of severe circumstances.
While the creative people may be broke, tired and hungry, they are on the rise to changing society as a whole.
Due to their ability to see beyond the norm, our generation is at a greater advantage for changing the demands of each individual career field.
The creatives have learned to take a piece of plastic and turn it into an instrument,
The creatives have learned to take pieces of nature and turn it into art,
The creatives have learned to take something ordinary and turn it into something that becomes a trending topic on every social media platform where it becomes accessible to the masses.
Again: times are changing and now it's our turn to take over.
Marketing will no longer be something you see on an over sized piece of paper or a 30 second commercial###
The arts may be overlooked by a majority, but soon we will be helping generations after us find their inner "creative."
The rise of creativity isn't just a person, an idea, a piece of art, or a clip of music,
The rise of creativity is a movement that is changing the normalcy of society and turning it into something entirely new.
Maybe that's why they're talked down to, maybe that's why CNN reports that the most "useless" majors are related to the arts: because we all know change can be a scary thing... and for the arts to be considered popular is scary to the generation taught that crunching numbers all day is the best means of paying the bills.
So, to all the "Negative Nancy's" who say creativity is dead and irrelevant, just remember that our generation is next in line to get the jobs and even run this country.
We're not afraid of opposition, we're not afraid of someone telling us no. Our talents, our way of adapting, and our way of thinking and creating has allowed us to realize that our potential is more than enough to earn success.
It's not a competition, it's not about who's better or richer. Creatives work together. We'll get the job done
Personal nor public opinion can change the fact that it's our turn now.
Don't believe us? Just watch.
