This generation has truly outdone themselves with their ability to cling to every form of technology in such an extreme way that there has been various consequences. From selfie sticks to replacing television with Netflix/Hulu/Amazon Prime to Snapchatting our daily lives and more we have actually begin to physically strain ourselves.
We are at the point now where we are so desperate to consume technology and rely on it for almost everything that we have these strange injuries like computer vision syndrome, carpal tunnel syndrome, hearing deficiencies and one of the newest selfie elbow. The selfie stick is being considered a weapon and a selfie is causing some people to feel discomfort in their elbows.

Hoda Katb, co-anchor for the fourth hour on NBC’s Today, loves and mastered the art of selfies. She told ELLE magazine that she went to an orthopedic doctor and they asked if she has been playing ping pong or tennis, which she hadn't. She told them it was from taking so many selfies. Dr. Jordan Metzel, a sports medicine physician at New York's hospital for special surgery, said that there is a consequence that comes with overdoing a certain activity or motion just like texting and typing. "Basically, the interface between technology and the human body sometimes causes injuries of over-exuberance," Dr. Metzl told Elle magazine.

In the past people have gotten tendinitis in their thumbs from using their Blackberry. My sister herself who is 24 has carpal tunnel from typing at the front desk of her job so much. Dr. Metzel says the best thing to do is switch it up and do not overdo these activities to much. Maybe use one hand to selfie one day and the other the next. If you do receive pain from activities like this Advil and Motrin are your best bet.
Advice from me? Document everything and anything. If possible, have someone take a picture of you. You really capture the memory even if that is getting to an outdated point. Majority of our generation, including myself, love to selfie. So my fellow selfie people, continue capturing as many moments as you can but do not hurt yourself. Sounds a little much, am I right?
