The Generation Of Foodies

Everyone loves to take pictures of their food and the trend is here to stay.

Why is everyone so obsessed with taking pictures of their food? Why is it a thing to share these pictures on various social media platforms? These are two questions that often come to mind as I scroll through my Facebook and Instagram feeds, although I do it, too.

Technology makes it very easy to post pictures of food on multiple platforms within seconds. I find that people often try restaurants that have appealing dish presentations. Whether millennials recognize it or not, technology has increased our dining experience standards. Now that there is such easy access to reviews and pictures of food from most restaurants, people are likely to research a restaurant before going. Finding trendy restaurants and hidden gems has also become much easier now that people are constantly sharing pictures of their food on various social media platforms.

Whether I am at brunch, lunch or dinner, I almost always take a picture of my food before touching it. On that same note, a lot of the time I post pictures of my food on at least one of my social media accounts.

Snapchat, Facebook, Instagram and Wine ’n Dine are some of the most popular social media platforms where people post pictures of their food. In my opinion, the presentation of a dish is key in deciding if a picture is worthy of social media recognition. These standards have been collectively created by millennials who never want to disappoint with their restaurant choices and photography skills.

Between each of the social media platforms mentioned previously, I feel that Wine ’n Dine and Instagram are the two most productive platforms for foodies. Wine ’n Dine is a great place for people to share their opinions and restaurant suggestions with friends and followers. It is very similar to Instagram, but is solely dedicated to food and drinks. A post on Wine ’n Dine includes the name of the restaurant, the dish in the picture, the users ranking of the dish and the option to post a comment. The information required in order to post a picture on Wine ’n Dine makes it easy for users to get the recommendations they are looking for.

Similarly, it has become a common trend to create Instagram accounts that are dedicated to food. Following these food accounts is something many people find useful whether they are visiting an unfamiliar place, moving to a new city or even just looking to try a new restaurant in the city they already live in.

As overwhelming as technology can be, social media platforms are a great way to easily share restaurant and dish recommendations with other social media users who love food just as much as you and I do.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
