Us the Duo said, “We could be the generation who learns how to love.” This really makes me think a lot about how influential our generation really is in this world. In general, I feel this generation - our generation - is so driven. No matter what it is, we will do whatever it takes to accomplish our goals and make it big. But what if we made it big and loved in the process? No, I am not talking about the mushy, gushy, googly-eyed kind of love. I’m saying the kind of love that meets no stranger, that will do absolutely anything for anyone who needs it, the kind that loves the “unlovable,” the kind of love that gets down to the nitty gritty and ugly parts of life and the kind that gives strength in vulnerability, loving others the way Jesus does.
I honestly see that already happening. I think our generation is way ahead of the curve and has surpassed learning to love and has gone straight to exemplifying love in all aspects of life. They see every person through Christ’s eyes as beautiful creations, fearfully and wonderfully made. The world we live in today is dripping with hatred on all sides, and I, for one, am heartbroken by it all. I am not alone in this, either. However, here lately and more often than not, I look around and catch a glimpse of my peers displaying a love that overwhelms me with peace, whether it be volunteering, heading up a charity event on campus or even the smallest, random act of kindness. We are the generation who is loving the world into change right now.
Colossians 3 says: “12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”Not only are we a generation who loves, but because we love, we also embody all of the characteristics mentioned above. I see so many different degrees of each of these characteristics in the people I interact with every day, and I know deep in my soul that these people will do incredible things for this world.
All around us we see bitterness, anger and resentment, yet in the midst of a dark, broken world, there is a generation that is a little glimmer of hope that will soon enough become a blinding light. The world as we know it is about to be turned completely upside down. I think this is where the phrase “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em" is appropriate because this generation is killing it with kindness.
“Allow God to continually soften your heart, so it beats for what His beats for: His people.”
Love is happening right now, so I encourage you to join in on the fun and see where it can take you.
As always, peace and blessings.
