Gee Golly ✌🏾

Greensboro, Winston, Chicago, or Boone. We'll always be friends.

Gee Golly ✌🏾

It's August and that means two things: 1. Bathing suits are half-off at most major retailers and 2. School is back in session.

If you're 18-22 years of age you most likely are going to college. College is a time for new experiences and it leaves you with very little time for reminiscing about the past.

I'm a Design and Production major at UNCSA. A major that has one of the most complex schedules I have ever seen. A schedule that I'm pretty sure is going to dominate my life. Combine that with the stree of making new memories and friends, fully participating in classes, and trying to learn as much about my trade as possible, it's going to be hard to communicate with my squad. So this is a letter to them, Gee Golly!

Gee Golly,

You guys are front and center in several of my most memorable high school moments. We've danced all night, been locked out of IHOP, ridden roller coasters, and bowled badly. Some of you I've known longer than others, but I love you all the same.

I want so badly for us to stay as connect as possible and update each other on all the goings on in our ever progressing lives.I know there are going to be quiet times. I accept that, but I want us all to at the very least try.

So you each have a task.

Becca: Text Me PLEASE! I know we are both awful at responding to messages in a timely matter and just ignore the old ones. We are going to have to step our game up. If I text you there is no time limit and hopefully vice versa. Text me back, 4 hours later or 4 days later. I don't care. I just need you to tell me what you're reading and what to watch on Netflix.

Liv: Try not to have too much fun in Chicago. All the concerts you are going to be able to see. Ugh! I'm so jealous. I'm holding you to Lollapallooza, by the way.

Aubry: My ride or die. We'll be friends for ever. Don't hurt yourself playing rugby and try to have as much fun as possible. Go to parties, stay out late, and kick ass in the classroom. You've got everything you need to be successful and I know you can be fantastic, so just go and be fantastic! Okay?

To all of you: Forgive me for going dark and not responding to the group message or when I talk to much about wigs and my excessive amount of makeup. You guys are the three best friends that anyone could ever have and I love and am going to miss all of you very much.

See you later,

Samone J.

Liv said it best: "I'll always remember this friendship. From Greensboro, to Winston, To Chicago, and Boone, we'll always be friends."

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
