GCU has recently gotten a Taco Bell on campus at the beginning of this semester and I will never understand why, of all the restaurants to put on campus, they had to put a Taco Bell. No matter what people say or how much they try to hype it up, Taco Bell is just not good food.
I have been to Taco Bell before in the past and I don't ever need to go again. The food isn't that great and yeah it's cheap, but that is about the only thing that Taco Bell has going for it. Also, I will never ever understand why students felt the need to camp outside of Taco Bell to be the first ones served when there is one five minutes away.
I will admit it is nice that they kept pretty much the same menu from what I have heard about it, so that way it is still cheap for the students who do like Taco Bell. But even the cheap food will not pull me into wanting to eat there. I grew up in San Diego in the center of Mexican food and Taco Bell is nothing compared to that. Now I know people are going to say that "It's fast food Mexican food. It's not supposed to be the best." But you can go to most other "fast food" Mexican restaurants and it will still be better than Taco Bell.
It may be cheap and it may still be considered some form of Mexican food, but I just can't get behind it. Partially because of the food I grew up with and partially from experience, Taco Bell is not something that I will ever be able to get behind. I know this is an unpopular opinion, even amongst my friends it is. They've tried to get me to go and I still refuse.
Also, I absolutely love Mexican food, but why did we have to add another Mexican food restaurant when we already have one. I mean come on the Qdoba and Taco Bell are like 20 feet away from each other. We have a good variety on the campus of food right now. Why couldn't we have added some other style of restaurant?
In the end, GCU is going to continue to add whatever restaurants they want, but I will continue to not agree with their decision to put a Taco Bell on campus. I think that there are so many better food options that they could have put there instead. The only thing I can say that is nice about it is the fact that the menu is still cheap, so that will help students when they start to run out of dining dollars. But even then I don't know how that would make it much better because yeah it's cheap food, but it's not good food. So is there really a win in that situation? I don't think that there is.
