A Gay Man's Letter To America

If it's broken, fix it.

Dear America,

I hope that you listen closely to the words that are about to roll off my tongue.

We need a change.

No, I am not talking about one specific event that has me pissed off, hurt, scared or left me in total confusion. It's not one event that has led us to where we are now.

Multiple events have built up to the state we have found ourselves in after the events in Orlando, and I truly feel that America is overdue for a revolution.

What type of revolution? All types. I have always loved the saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." So, I have coined my own little reverse of that saying to follow in these hard times. If it is broken (or remotely seems broken), then please fix it. We cannot allow the state we have found ourselves in to continue. We have innocent brothers and sisters falling left and right, straight into their early graves. Why is that? It is definitely not one single issue to blame.

We can't blame everything on gay marriage.

We can't blame everything on gun laws.

We can't even blame everything on Donald Trump.

Why is this? All of these things have had to receive ample support from us, the citizens of this once beautiful country, to get out of control like they have gotten.

Where have our morals gone? We are now the country that persecutes its own people — just like the country that we left to create our nation.

So what do we do? We pick ourselves back up from the ground that we have catapulted onto, and we create a better nation. We learn from our mistakes. We make things better.

I'm writing this today to say that I am a gay man, and I am pissed off. I am pissed off at myself, at my elders, at my leaders and at my peers — most importantly myself. We have allowed ourselves to sit and mope around about our problems for far too long. One tragedy occurs, social media blows up for about two months with frustrated citizens demanding a change and then the attention fades away until the next tragedy occurs.

I won't allow myself to play those games any longer. I can't.

I'm a gay man living in America, and I will stand up for what I believe is right until it is acknowledged and made into a law. I'm sick of seeing my LGBT+ family members dying because of their sexual identity. I'm sick of everything wrong in America, but I can't let myself whine about that. I must create change.

This article is not meant to be a piece written by a gay male in college where said gay male cries and whines about all of his problems, but it may just end up that way.

And I'm OK with that.

I'm OK with that as long as it creates change. If I can persuade one of my fellow citizens to listen to me and help turn my cries into actions, then I have accomplished my goal.

America, don't mess with me because I am an angry, pissed gay man that will do everything it takes to make his world the most peaceful, kind world to live in. I know that my LGBT+ community has my back, and none of us will stop until justice is reached for the land that we call home.

America, this is my final notice for you. It's time for a revolution.

Dear High School Friend Group,

My sweet angels, where would I be without you guys. We all grew up together because we either met in middle school or high school and watched each other grow up and get "old." We got to go to prom together and then graduate together. Then watched each other as we continued our lives in college, joining sororities and meeting people who will impact our lives forever. It all has happened so fast.

Oh college, we can’t live with you, but we can’t live without you. It’s a love/hate relationship, really. College is an experience that no one can ever prepare you for, and maybe that’s a good thing. You never really expect any of the things that college encompasses until you are there. College is fun, but don’t have too much fun. C’s get degrees, but they don’t get you into graduate school.

Blair Waldorf

The "Gossip Girl" series may be over, but Blair Waldorf's iconic character lives in our hearts forever. Blair was the queen of the Upper East Side, and a character you either loved or hated. She taught us everything we needed to know about life, love and of course, how to score a Chuck Bass. So the next time you feel a bit lost and are in need of guidance, look no further than to the Queen B herself.

As I spend my Sunday avoiding my homework and other adult responsibilities, I realized that I've watched this series over and over about a million times. Sadly, there isn't a Blair quote I don't know, so I came up with a list of a few favorites. You know you love her...xoxo

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.
