Downtown Macon's Most Hospitable Lunch Spot

Recently, I have come across a hidden gem in Downtown Macon, GA, and here's to say I am in awe.

Gateway Cafe, located at 300 Mulberry Street, Suite 102, Macon, GA, 31201, in the Gateway Plaza, is a restaurant definitely worth a visit. After visiting Gateway Cafe for the third time, I felt naturally compelled to spread the great news about this place. When I first stepped foot into Gateway Cafe, the inviting aroma and decor made me really excited to try something, anything from the menu. Owner Adam Michie and his staff were so welcoming and patient as I indecisively ordered my sandwich. After deciding on the Chicken Salad sandwich, my husband and I sat down to eat our meals. On the first bite, I was sold. The chicken salad tasted so fresh and packed with flavor, it was as if my momma had made it herself that morning. Along with the food, the atmosphere is very warm. The soft jazz playing in the background brings comfort while eating, which is a plus if one were to eat while on their lunch break.

Sandwiches & Wraps

One thing that instantly grabbed my interest was that everything is made fresh and homemade. Owner Adam Michie hand makes all sandwiches and wraps upon request. Even if it is not on the menu, he can make the sandwich of your dreams if he has the ingredients at hand. There are several bread choices for the sandwiches which are White, Sweet Hawaiian (personal favorite), Wheat, Rye, Honey Oat, Hoagie, Sourdough, and Panni. One of their current best sellers is their Buffalo Chicken Wraps and Sandwiches which includes ranch, buffalo sauce, fresh lettuce, and tomatoes. Other great sandwich choices are the Super Club (the feature photo), Roast Beef, Rueben, and Philly Steak. My personal favorites are the Chicken Salad and Tuna Salad Sandwiches. Let's not forget about the Wraps. Besides the infamous Buffalo Chicken, other fan favorites are the Grilled Chicken Caesar, Chicken and Ranch, and Super Club which all mimics their sandwiches. Another great thing about their sandwiches and wraps is that they are all packed with meat. Here are some pictures of featured sandwiches and wraps.

Add a Side

All sandwiches and wraps have the option for a side which includes Pasta Salad, Potato Salad, Chips, or a Cookie. Honestly, there is no wrong choice. Or another great option is to choose two, which is half a sandwich and/ or a bowl of soup or salad. Their salads are always fresh and can also come customized to your needs by adding ham, turkey, grilled chicken, tuna or chicken salad, just to name a few. They also have an assortment of home-style soups of choice however, the fan favorites are Taco soup and Tomato soup.

Who Doesn't Love Cake??

Even if you are not a sandwich lover, you should definitely try their delicious, mouthwatering, homemade cupcakes and cakes. I have tried the Key-Lime cupcake and my first thought was that it was really moist, while the icing was light textured, yet rich in flavor. It was one of the best I've had in Macon. Seriously, I can not make this up. All cakes and cupcakes are also fresh and homemade by one of the best. Some of their cupcake flavors are Key-Lime, Red Velvet, and Strawberry.

Need a Morning Pickup?

If you are an early bird, please stop by for their awesome Breakfast Sandwiches and Bowls. Each sandwich has a choice of egg, sausage, or bacon on toast, a biscuit, or croissant (fan favorite). Or you can get one of their best selling Breakfast Bowl with grits, eggs, and sausage. It also comes with bacon or just grits and eggs.

What Makes This Place Special?

Besides the food, it's the staff. Being a family owned business, everyone is genuinely friendly. Within my three visits, I sat back and watched the way everyone interacted with the customers. It was almost as if everyone knew everyone personally as if it was a big family. And that made me feel great because now, I feel as if I am a part of this big family. Owner Adam Michie is a hardworking man. Other than running his business, he is a proud Firefighter of 13 years, Paramedic and a Softball Coach. He also has a wife and three beautiful girls. In his spare time, he loves to enjoy outdoor adventures with his family. Adam says ever since he could remember, he used to help his mom with her catering business, and that has inspired him to one day open up his own restaurant.

Here's to making your dreams come true Adam.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
