In Columbia, football is more than a game--it's an experience. Game day is something that students look forward to all week; it's what gets us all through the long days and late nights in the library. The day begins hours before the actual game. Tailgates cover the many miles around the stadium and music can be heard all throughout downtown. The town turns garnet and black for the day.
There are no words to describe the feeling that builds within your chest when the Williams Brice hype video plays and you hear sandstorm for the first time. The sea of garnet and black is overwhelming to some, but a second home to many. Game day becomes a religion.
You feel the stadium shake, you see the first few towels swinging in the air; sandstorm begins. Everyone is jumping cohesively- the stadium is a mass of energy that for those three minutes seems that it could lift off the ground and sail through the air. Sandstorm is a game day tradition that brings all fans together.
Saturdays in Columbia are for the Gamecocks. #SpursUp
