Well here we are ladies and gents, we just got confirmation that the highly anticipated season eight of "Game of Thrones" will be airing in April of 2019. That's about five months away, so it's officially time to start having a meltdown.
The cast has done an extremely good job of not revealing any of the big secrets, and George R. R. Martin still hasn't finished writing the book, so there isn't really much to go on here as far as rumors of what's going on. But has that ever stopped assholes like me from trying to figure out as much as possible anyways? Here's what I know/what I want to see so far
Oh and, spoiler warning in full effect.
Right off the back here I think something that many people know, but I feel is still worth saying is that each episode in season 8 is going to be around the two-hour mark, essentially just watching a movie every episode. I wanted to mention this because I feel like the fact they are making such a high production, over the top type of season, shows that this format for TV shows works, especially when done correctly. Shout out to HBO for consistently setting an example for TV.
So to start things off plot-wise, the biggest point which I think most people are excited for is the inevitable war that's going to take place between the army of the dead and Daenerys's army she's bringing to the wall. (If you don't remember we left off with the entire wall being destroyed by an undead dragon).
What makes this battle exciting, is that some members of the cast said it will blow the "Battle of the Bastards" out of the water. I mean it makes sense considering this is the war to end all wars, but if you remember how amazing the 'BoB' was, were in for a massive treat.
Another rumor that is going around that the character Jamie Lannister is going to have some "Grade A" level shenanigans this season. There's talk that he might reach an inevitable conclusion, but there's a not a lot on what that actually means. He's a fan favorite for many despite the whole crippling an innocent kid/having sex with his sister thing.
A lot of people think he is going to come across Bran aka the creepy "you looked so beautiful" aka the "Three-Eyed Raven," and finally confront what he did years ago. I think this would be an interesting way to finally see his character come full circle and show the development between the two. As far as if he will die? Who can say, but it does seem fit for him to have the beautiful tragic ending route to a beloved character.
For me personally, when everything is all said and done I really want to see the "Night King" be the one who comes out on top.
I understand the backlash on this, but hear me out. All viewers of this show have been through the same gauntlet of having character after character meet their end, it became an infamous concept for "GoT." Never become too attached to a character is the warning I got when starting the show.
Well, what if despite our heroes relentless efforts to claim the throne, or to stop the Night King, or to save their own skin, all eventually fails. Imagine that the army of the dead has just become too powerful to take on and in this show about politics and people fighting for the throne, imagine how fitting it would be if no one ended up winning.
This would be an insane ending, but it's the type of ending that a show like "GoT" has an opportunity to take a risk with and leave a massive mark on insane TV history.
No one knows what'll happen for sure, but if I'm right everyone owes me $5.
