Game Grumps. Who are they?
Game Grumps is a "Let's Play" video game web series that began in 2012. They currently have over three million subscribers on YouTube. The series stars animator and voice actor Arin Hanson (also known as egoraptor on his individual YouTube channel) and Jon Jafari (also known as JonTron). Jafari left the series in 2013 due to unidentified conflicts and went on to work on his own channel. Dan Avidan, a comedian/musician, replaced his spot as co-host. Arin Hanson and Dan Avidan are currently the hosts of the series.
Game Grumps consist of more members than just Arin and Dan. There are other hosts that direct and star in spin-off episodes, such as Suzy Berlow, Barry Kramer and Ross O' Donovan. Brian Wecht, who partners with Avidan on their comedy band NinjaSexParty, also appears in select episodes. The editors include Barry Kramer as the main editor, along with Ryan Magee and Matt Watson. Vernon Shaw is also a member, as well as a member of another popular YouTube channel, Hot Pepper Gaming.
Aside from producing online content, the Game Grumps have done special performances known as "Game Grumps Live!" They started with their first show in New York this past April which then began to branch off. Fast forward to October 5, 2016 Game Grumps have launched the start of their east coast tour in Boston. I was one of the 1,200 people that entered the sold out Wilbur Theatre to see a real life edition of a typical "Let's Play." Vernon Shaw was at the forefront of setting up the equipment needed. As Hanson and Avidan appeared on stage, the crowd was bustling with excitement. The rest of the night was a complete hit. As an audience, we were told repeatedly by Avidan that we were "amazing." The audience and I left the show in utter bliss with the fateful promise that they would be back in the future to entertain Boston once more.
The Game Grumps are a group of individuals that I personally, admire. They have worked hard to carve out a path of success through their web series, among other channels like them on the YouTube platform. So if you're into video games or this genre on YouTube, check their channel out. You will not be disappointed. Each personality that a "grump" showcases through a video will have you enthralled by their work.
